Duvet / sleeping bag for newborn

What should I put my newborn in to sleep? I was looking for sleeping bags but read they’re not suitable for newborns? I’m due in September so I definitely need some kind of cover.

Sleeping bags have a minimum weight
Duvets are unsuitable under 1 year
We used a swaddle thing until they were big enough for a sleeping bag

Cellular blankets tucked in securely worked for us.

Swaddle blanket or cellular blanket which gets tucked in securely on all 3 sides under the mattress to keep it from moving at all. Duvets big no. Sleeping bags there are some that can be worn quite young but not immediately as a newborn.

I discovered these love2dream swaddles with DS2, he had a terrible startle reflex and these were a complete game changer. When they start to roll you have to swap to a normal sleeping bag with their arms out or they have a version which you can take the arm swaddle bits off abs then their arms are free ☺️ https://www.lovetodream.co.uk

The tommee-tippee grow bags are great - as they also act as a swaddle which you will need.
Agree with the cellular blanket as well - but perhaps wait till the baby comes as you don't know what kind of baby you are going to have - trust me - I brought loads of swaddles etc, did my daughter use them? Did she hell. I spent 12 weeks holding her every. night.

Definitely not a duvet. I used a newborn swaddle and some cellular blankets until she was the right size for a gro bag.

Changingwiththetimes · 11/04/2021 21:56

I used grobags. But my babies were big - over 10lbs at birth.

HappyGoPlucky · 11/04/2021 23:11

I used gro-bags from LOs being newborns. They were absolutely fine. They were so well fitting there was no chance of them wriggling into it.
If they're baggy obviously no chance but they tend to fit quite snuggly, basically like a vest with a baggy bottom. There are sizes on them, eg 0-3 months etc.
They're great in winter when you worry about them wriggling out from under blankets. You can even get turn with arms!
Best invention ever. Grin

Cellular blanket

We used gro bags from new born, I loved them. TK Maxx often have them cheap. My daughter was a January baby and they were fine.

Thank you all so much! :)

Cellular blankets worked fine for us until they went into a bed at circa 15 months
