Getting 'colours' done

Trillio · 10/04/2021 16:09

I've realised that i cannot figure out whether my skin is warm or cool toned. And many of the colours I thought suited me actually don't. I wanna see someone who can help but the only company I've been recommended (red leopard on instagram) charges more than I can afford (over £200). Anyone got recommendations?

You might be neutral! What colours did you think suited you and was it other people who told you that they didn't suit you?

I did a quiz that specified that I was a dark autumn, I'll try and find it.

I didn't even need to do a quiz though, I KNOW that my best colours are rust and olive. I dyed a load of tops rust and they came out well.
You don't have to spend a fortune on this.

I mixed three dyes to get rust and I suppose that was about 18 euro but I got a good result.

You could have a look in here www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/season/all-colours. If you look under shop by colour at the different seasonal palettes and see which one has more of the couloirs you like/ feel suit you the. That might be a useful starting point and won't cost you a penny

oh well now I'm a warm spring

I was a deep autumn, now I'm a warm spring. Hmmm.

Casmama · 10/04/2021 16:22

Excuse the typos Hmm

I did this with Colour Me Beautiful, but it must be over twenty years ago so I've no idea how much it costs these days.

Actually I think that quiz is quite good. I came out as cool summer and House of Colour had me as deep summer - the suggested best colours are accurate too. Some answers may have been influenced but the fact I've had it done but definitely worth a go

Also very curious about this!

lindyloo57 · 10/04/2021 16:52

Me too, my vains are both blue and green, so am I warm or cool, when I try silver near my face or gold, I don't see any differences

NotMeNoNo · 10/04/2021 16:57

I would count it as part of your clothes/accessories/make up budget for a year. As far as I'm concerned it's paid for itself in avoiding bad buys. (House of Colour). I'm near neutral and couldn't figure it out myself at all.

I had a House of Colour session, it was £99 at the time, that was about 15 years ago. I’m a HOC paintbox spring, that quiz upthread had me as a warm spring. So it’s quite accurate, although given I already know my tone and colours that probably influenced my answers.

This . A million % . Lifetime ahead of no costly mistakes ....

This is my area of interest! I went to House of Colour about two years ago to get my colours done. It was expensive, not much less than £200, but in my opinion, worth every penny!!
It's fantastic now knowing what colours suit me, most of which I would NEVER have worn before. I'm pale with dark brown hair and blue eyes and am an autumn. I would never have worn teal, rust or dark olive as assumed they would wash me out, but now I love them!
Sounds cheesy, but it does actually make you feel more confident and happy (honestly!) wearing the colours you look best in. A colleague at work actually said 'What have you done?' As he could see the change in me.

My mum, who is 80, had it done at the same time, when she wears her best colours her whole face lights up, she looks younger, hair nicer colour and skin creamy.

Also, it's not just clothes, they advise you what colour your hair should be, makeup bits, glasses, accessories, shoes. If you stick to these then in theory all your wardrobe goes together, too. It takes the best part of the day.

It is expensive, but if you can afford it, go for it! Lifetime investment.

Excellent advice so far, thanks all. Will try that quiz now and see how I get on. I suspect I'm a neutral skin as my veins are more blue than green but I look terrible with silver jewellery and much nicer than gold! So the usual advice has never helped me much. Plus I'm dark blond and years of colouring my hair and varying between warm and cool blond shades hasn't made it any clearer to me which looks best. It's also good to know that HoC is also in the same price range as the one I found as I'm more likely to bite the bullet and pay. I was told as a younger person (I'm 40) that I looked good in pastels. But nowadays if I wear them I look drained and I look far better in rich colours.

Try a consultation with styled by Emily. A more affordable but seemingly just as accurate approach

BatshitCrazyWoman · 11/04/2021 11:40

I prefer Colour Me Beautiful as it's far more nuanced. I'm soft light and warm.
