For the last few weeks I have felt really run down. I'm covered In cold sores up my nose around my mouth etc.

My face is also very very dry and sore. I apply moisturiser everyday but my face is still sore.

Please could anyone recommend something that might help to "overnight" moisturise me?

Possibly look into a hyaluronic serum, and perhaps a gentler moisturiser.

Cerave has good gentle hydrating moisturisers- created with dermatologists

Sounds like you need some Acyclovir to shift the cold sores, then get some fruit and veg in your diet. Maybe take a multivitamin too.
Try a facial oil, they aren’t greasy like they sound.

I've been using the Aldi Caviar Day and Night cream for the last month, my skin had become really dry and this is bloody brilliant.

I've used all sorts of products across all price ranges and this is the only thing that I've noticed a visible difference. The night one is very rich, but my skin has lost all of the tight feeling, it's so smooth and my make up goes on so nicely, I've also noticed a reduction in the fine lines round my eyes, definitely worth a try for the price.

I've been using aciclovir, i also eat lots of fruit and veg and take cod liver oil and multivitamin tablets.

I've had really dry sore skin on my face for a while and have literally spent tons of money on different products, also had creams from my GP. Was just about to book a consultation with private dermatologist and had one last google for products..I went straight to Holland and Barrett and bought Hanna Sillitoe vitamin D face cream...omg the difference was amazing. £24 I use it everyday now and my skin is no longer sore.

Try Avene. They do a lovely range for very dry sensitive and stressed skin. Really good stuff

Or... Aveeno Cream with Colloidal Oats. NOT the lotion.

Blood tests for any deficiencies perhaps OP? Otherwise I hear lysine supplements can work wonders for cold sores.

When my face feels as you describe I switch to an oil cleanse for my first cleanse, something very plain and unfragranced and give it a real massage in before removing with a soft cloth and cleansing with my usual cream cleanser just to remove residue, pat dry and moisturise immediately while skin's still slightly damp.

Aveeno and the eucerin 5% urea face cream are also lifesavers. The latter is particularly good.

It's pricey but I also rate the clarins sos mango comfort hydrating mask. When my skin is like yours sounds it offers such relief from tight dry skin.

+1 for Aveeno or cetaphil lotion. Use something really gentle to cleanse / wash your face like cetaphil.

Thank you everyone

I'm not sure the cold sores are connected to the dryness OP but some good recommendations for moisturisers here

Are you being careful about spreading them eg if you are moisturising on or near the cold sores then you could be spreading the infection

GuyFawkesDay · 10/04/2021 11:57

Good old Aveeno cream (not lotion)
It's my go to for whenever my skin is reactive or really dry. Doesn't irritate, sting or wind up skin at all.

GuyFawkesDay · 10/04/2021 11:59

Cleansing wise definitely Avene. They do a range of wipe off, washes and cold cream you can use warm water and a cloth with. All for dry, sensitive skin.

I deviated from them for a while but their stuff really is fabulous.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/04/2021 12:17

It might sound counterproductive but don't do anything to your face.

No washing, no cleaning, no moisturising. Let it be for a couple of days, it's settle down nicely.

You might spread the cold sores, you might irritate the skin even more. Just do nothing.

I had eczema a few years ago and at the time the only thing that didn't sting was Savlon. It helped.
