Milia removal

Looking for some advice!

I've got a milia (or what looks like one) in the inner corner of my eye.

It permanently looks like I've got eye gunk there which isn't great.

Where do I go to get it removed? Any idea what that might cost? I'm assuming it's not a GP thing but a private clinic or something?

Or could I enlist my steady handed adult daughter with a sterilised needle? 😬

Hopeful bump (see what I did there)

I got rid of one in a similar place gradually with regular application of a salicylic acid serum followed by a clay mask. Took a while of doing it twice weekly for o shift it entirely but I started seeing improvement quickly.

But it was about 1/2 cm from my actual eye so I had a clear margin for not getting products in eye.

And if you go down that route you need a clay mask that isn’t just kaolin, it’s not absorbent enough. Pink, green and yellow clay all good.

I had one in the corner of my eye about 4/ 5 years ago, and had it removed by a dermatologist (privately). No way could I have done it myself in that place. I can’t remember what I paid but it wasn’t too bad (and it hasn’t come back).

Cluckycluck · 08/04/2021 09:40

I've always removed mine myself with a sterilised needle.

Medi spas do them and degmatoligusts. A medispa will be much cheaper than a dermatologist. I trained in removing them years ago so do my own using hypodermic needles. The only thing if you use a standard needle is making sure its fine and and and sharp enough to cut the skin effortlessly without pulling it. The skin also needs to be cleaned with alcohol first.

Thanks so much for all the replies!

I've called a dermatologist this morning and was quoted £100 for the consult plus £110 for the removal, I was hoping it would be more like £50 😂

So self removal is looking more of an option now, although I will look up medispa options. I have no experience whatsoever of this kind of thing so really appreciate any advice!

@ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel would you put salicylic acid on the inner corner of your eye though?

I got rid of one myself which was directly under my lower water line. Certainly needed a steady hand but did it in 5 mins with a needle.

willowmelangell · 08/04/2021 13:25

I do my own really easily with a clean needle. Always had them. I wait a week or so until they are their biggest and just a tiny scratch/prick on the top, just enough to open the skin and gently pop them out. A dab of savlon and no problems.

MimiPigeon · 08/04/2021 13:28

I would be thrilled at the opportunity to pop that with a needle!

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 08/04/2021 14:26

Can you see it right in the inner corner?

Apologies for scraggy eyebrows and mascara 😬

How about a good ol' hot compress, hot as you can bear? That could help, you'd only really need a tiny corner of flannel or muslin. You have lovely lashes btw!

My mum had a huge one. Dr recommended twice daily compresses with clean flannel, boiled water (as hot as you can bear) with a touch of salt.

Disappeared all by itself 👍🏽

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 08/04/2021 17:32

I could definitely have a go at hot compresses as a first option!

Thanks so much for the advice all.

Have you tries your local beauty college? Level 3 beauty learners require removal as part of their course. Got a few done at mine for free. Call them up once they open.

Notavegan · 08/04/2021 19:46

I normally pick and squeeze mine, but wouldn't in that location.

fiorentina · 08/04/2021 20:29

I have removed near my eye. Pierced one side with a sterilised needle and gently pushed it out from the other side. It didn’t scar and was quite simple. My son recently just scratched one off. Maybe don’t recommend but that didn’t scar either..

hattymattie · 15/04/2021 18:04

I have tried needles under the eye but sometimes they sink because it is soft tissue. I then end up making the skin bleed. Also round the eye - difficult to see and control needle eye waters. I have some that have been lodged in position for years as too inaccessible.
