What the hell can I wear now I've gained weight

I'm cross with myself for gaining around 1 stone since last summer. All my clothes are tight and definitely need 16s. Tops feel tight, boobs and tummy have got fatter. My usual style is jeans and Breton tops but they look shit with the middle tyre I am now sporting. Had some lovely Oasis slash neck T's which are all too tight around my bust and sides,

What can I buy to wear to get me though until I lose weight so that I look and feel good about myself?

I’m in exactly the same boat OP. I’ve gone up two dress sizes in a bloody year and I am furious with myself.

I have bought some jersey tunics from Boden which I wear with leggings (and control pants) and that will need to do me until I motivate myself to lose weight. Sitting here on mumsnet with a glass of white and a bag of crisps isn’t going to shift the weight of course, so I only have myself to blame.

Keep your jeans and Breton tops, just buy better high waisted knickers to keep the tyre in a bit. Then work on getting rid of it completely.

willthatbeall · 07/04/2021 18:43

I am working on getting rid but that won't be overnight. So I have a choice - hide until I get my confidence back
through weight loss or get out there and buy the confidence in new clothes.

I can't wear tunics and leggings. That takes me back to the days of severe PND 12 years ago.

I'm so miserable.

Probably need new jeans. Mine are slipping down, ironically I think this is because they are too tight.

I really get where you are coming from ..I need to know where to buy tops that are long enough to go over the spare tyre !! Am really struggling!

TheGonnagle · 07/04/2021 18:48

Me too. Used to be a12/14, now most definitely a 16. Bloody lockdown wine. No ideas but following for wise words (obviously intending to have lost it again by this time next year)

Yours is good for longer length tops (I won't wear anything that stops at my waistband). I find them quite good for tshirts/vests/casual stuff

Beachlovingirl · 07/04/2021 20:18

Oh god I’m with you on this. I have a right chunky stomach now but still small shoulders and hips - I was always apple - ish but now I’m like pumpkin maybe.
I tried the 16/8 diet and actually managed to look chunkier, so all that rushing through meals after the children were in bed was for nothing!
My uniform right now is: mom jeans as they allow for my extra chunk. And boyfriend t shirts. I look massive from the side view.
I keep looking at clothes and am looking for a magical outfit that vanishes all my extra weight. As you can imagine, I have not found it yet.
I’m doing my fitness pal this week and also dragging myself onto the exercise bike. I miss takeaways Blush

Tell me more about Mom jeans?

I love dresses. They can cover lots of lumps and bumps and help you feel good too. Lots of floaty dresses out there for spring. Cardigans are also in and pull in a floaty dress and give it structure- if you go for a fitted one.
Jeggings are great too. Wear them nice and high to hold everything in along with a slightly larger Breton top. You will lose the weight feeling good about yourself.

HugeAckmansWife · 08/04/2021 08:10

Yep, leggings and tunics, those floaty dresses that are everywhere at the moment or loose, wide legged trousers with a fitted but not tight top. I got some really good anti chub rub pants to wear last summer under dresses which meant I could wear them for day long mooching rather than just evenings.

I've been there - am there. What I've done is buy one or two pairs of jeans in the next size up as they feel an awful lot more comfortable - I've stuck to the same style as I know they work for me otherwise. My breton tops are now being worn under a couple of loose overshirts at this time of year, and I have a couple of loose linen shirts to wear by themselves when it gets a lot warmer. So, roughly the same style as before but larger...

myfuckingfreezer · 08/04/2021 08:35

It won't be overnight but you could probably do it in a month. Even 2 months would means it's done before things really reopen and you have to be dressed for the outside world!

Take it from someone who knows, buying 'temporary' bigger clothes is a great way to procrastinate from the issue! Before you know it your 5 stone and 4 dress sizes bigger! And that takes longer to lose
