I'm 35 and started a skincare routine. I went for the superdrug range (cleanser, toner, serum and moisteriser.) i've started to get really hard boil like spots on my face. Is this likely to be years of not looking after my skin coming to the surface or my skin not agreeing with the products?

I don't know the answer but I wouldn't continue with anything that I reacted to in the way you describe. In your shoes I would stop completely and wait for the spots to clear up and then try introducing the products one at a time leaving 2 weeks before adding the next one. That way you can pinpoint whether it's a single product that is the problem. Then you have a better chance of figuring out if it's a particular ingredient within that product. I'm so far away from an expert it's unreal so I'm just thinking along the lines of what I'd do. Hopefully there will be a few people with some actual knowledge along in a bit! Some of the posters on here will know which ingredients are most problematic, etc but unfortunately I'm not one of them! Grin

I have good skin, well it's oily but never really get breakouts unless I faff around with different routines and products, adding too much in and in particular anything too anti-ageing can cause breakouts, although not hard boil like spots really. I think my skin is a bit reactive/sensitive. I had bad skin as a teenager (am 33 now) and hate it if I get spots. I got a few small spots last week after messing around with face masks so I've cut right back and am using a few products that I know are safe for me- cetaphil cleansers, la Roche posay micellar water and their thermal water spray which is really soothing, plus their effaclar H face cream. I find their products really gentle and they're non-comedogenic too- thinking of what I would do in your situation and I would look at getting a few gentle basic products from their range and using those right now.

Thank you both. A new day and more spots! I've stopped using them and will try as you suggested. I'd seen good recommendations about the superdrug range and the price was a big bonus!

Ah - no that shouldn't be happening at all. Can you contact SD and ask for their advice? When your skin has cleared you could try the products one by one as PP suggested, if you have the patience!

I tried a couple of drugstore products recently which were really good, nivea 24 hour day cream for sensitive skin with grape seed oil (spf 15), and neutrogena skin detox clay 2-in-1 mask. It can be used as a face wash but it does contain a bit of sacylic (sp?) and glycolic acid as chemical exfoliator.

Hope your skin clears up soon.

Definitely sounds like a reaction to one or more of the products. Not sure what range you got but anything with fragrance can irritate.
