With hairdressers opening up soon, does anyone else feel like getting a new exciting haircut? I'm currently growing out a blunt bob (mostly because I couldn't have it cut!) and I'm debating whether I should keep growing it out or chop it off. I'm early 30s with fine but not particularly thin hair and seem to never be able to commit to long hair! It probably doesn't help my husband is a big fan of 'shorter and funky' and always suggests that when I start the subject Grin. So, what are your plans? Are you embracing newfound love for long hair or itching to have a new do? What are you planning to get?

I’m unsure too. My hair desperately needs a cut and style. It’s gone from a blunt bob to my shoulders and although it looks tatty at the ends this is the first time in years that it’s been long enough to tie back which means I don’t need to wash and style it. Can’t decide whether to go back to short and choppy or get a trim and shape and keep the length. I suspect I’ll start with the trim and chop it off next time. I’m much older than you and getting rid of the wiry grey hairs is the biggest issue.

Oh @Karmatime, we're in similar place with length then! My problem is that once I can tie it back, I will do it all the time, so not sure if there's a point. I'm pondering whether I should go for above the shoulder bob, but perhaps a bit more layered this time to avoid puffiness, or grow it out until my baby is born end of summer, when I'll probably have to cut it anyway because of postpartum hair loss Confused. I have to say I love the convenience of tied hair and look of a nice bob.

I love bobs so much, I don't even find I have to style them much... then again it's so good to put your hair up in hot summer! Pretty sure I was annoyed with a bob a couple of years ago because of this.

I love that first pic, that’s what I aspire to, my hair is wavy though so it needs a blow dry to look like that. Otherwise I fear I look like Grayson Perry!

I’m in a similar dilemma. I now have the longest hair I’ve ever had as an adult, down to my shoulders, but I’m so goddamn fed up of hair everywhere. It takes ages to dry, it’s thick but thinning at the sides (perimenopause), and its straight but unruly, so if I go out in the wind I look like the wild woman of Borneo after two minutes.

If I go back to a bob, it still doesn’t behave - one side always turns up at the bottom. At least the length weighs it down.

So, I spend most of the time with it tied up, which is making me think I should go full Vicky McLure - but sadly, at 47 I don’t have the face for it and fear I would more resemble Shirley off Eastenders.

I just basically hate my hair.

@LunaNorth do you have to blow dry with shorter hair? I used to air dry my hair (I still do) and to get rid of the flick it was enough to use a round brush on damp hair. My hair is not thick though so it might be different. I join in pain in hair hate. Worst thing is mine looks so shiny, straight and silky when long, so it's nice on it's own, but it goes flat very easily and ages me about 10 years! I think the longest I can get away with is just below the shoulders anyway.

@Smurftastic yep, I have to blow dry it into submission when it’s short. It also grows very quickly, so if it’s very short it needs monthly trims to keep its shape.

I’d love to find a style that means I can just forget about it, but I think at nearly 47 I have to accept that it’s not gonna happen. My hair is just a sod.

Smurftastic · 06/04/2021 13:06

@LunaNorth I am convinced there's the ultimate haircut for all of us, it's just more difficult to find sometimes. At least your hair is thick! I'd probably keep mine shoulder length or similar if I had to blow dry it every time. Mine grows quickly too so I'm thinking whether to keep it longer for when my baby's born and I won't have the time for hairdresser. I hate mum-buns though, they don't suit me.

I think I’m going for shoulder length with layers. I need to be able to tie it back for running, etc. Not very imaginative, but it’ll have to do.
