Make up remover suggestions

I need a cheaper price range make up remover. Nothing too spendy because I try to spend a bit more on serums and creams and the budget needs to be kept in check.
I have ridiculously sensitive eyes, sensitive skin and rosacea.
I am in my 50's so really don't want to be rubbing, particularly round my eyes, any more than I have to.
Can anyone recommend any specific brand, and the one in that brand, which I might try please?

Watching with interest. I used baby oil for years but found I was rubbing my eyes a lot so decided to buy 'proper' eye make up remover. I wear waterproof mascara. Anyway, bought one from Avene. This was rubbish. Have to use this followed by baby oil as does not remove all my mascara.

So my recommendation is of something not to buy. Hopefully someone will be more helpful and come up with something effective.

I use Garnier micellar water dual phase one for eyes and liquid lipstick
Then the regular one all over face
I then use either the good skin hot cloth cleanser or the Aldi version of le cleanse and polish

Clinique take the day off. It’s a balm so you only need a tiny bit and a pot lasts ages. It’s the only think that gets all make up off and doesn’t make my eyes and skin sore.

I use pure, unscented almond oil. Inexpensive, works wonderfully, and a little goes a very long way.

Darklane · 05/04/2021 19:35

Boots Fragrance Free Eye Makeup remover is brilliant & only £1:50 a bottle. Been using it for years with no issues & have very sensitive skin & eyes.

I have tried lots and happiest with micellar water. Cheap as chips too.

FindingMeno · 05/04/2021 19:37

Thank you for your responses.
I most recently tried nivea sensitive micellar water and that really made my eyes sore.
I love the idea of a balm, like the clinique one, but hopefully a bit cheaper.

This from M&S?

FindingMeno · 05/04/2021 19:55

@Hansper that looks interesting, thank you.
The reviews seem very positive too!

@Darklane I like the look of ( and price) of that boots one.

I used to have a comfort cleansing cream in a pot from Clarins that felt super luxurious- not sure if they still do it.

MrsW85 · 05/04/2021 20:03

Soap and glory do a gorgeous cleaning balm, it is fragrance free and even removes my waterproof mascara. I just gently rub my eyes with my fingertips and it melts away. Wipe with a flannel or makeup remover cloth and its gone. They also do a cream cleanser called peaches and clean. I use them both.

Mrfoxinabox · 05/04/2021 20:09

I use the calamine cleansing balm from The Body Shop. It's so gentle and just melts my makeup off. Pot lasts ages too

Micellar water is not to be used on its own

It pulls oil from skin and if not followed up with a cleanser - balm or facial wash it can make your skin dry especially around the eyes

I also find it doesn’t effectively remove makeup and probably everything else

I would rather just double cleanse with a balm if that’s the case

paisleydot · 05/04/2021 21:00

Soap & glory Glow Your Mind is a balm, just like the Clinique now (I actually think it's a bit nicer feeling then the Clinique one). Usually on offer at Boots, so I always stock up.

CombatBarbie · 05/04/2021 21:02

Another vote for body shop camomile stuff.... Literally melts make up away

Very odd!? How to use Don't forget to shake well before use, pop some on a cotton wool pad, close your eyes and sweep downwards over your luscious lashes.

Hazardous
Avoid contact with eyes. If product gets into the eyes rinse well with water immediately.

FindingMeno · 05/04/2021 21:15

Thank you.
I'm definitely going to look into/ sample some of these suggestions.
@NowWhatUsernameShallIHave that makes sense about the micellar water. It didn't feel quite right to me, aside from burning eyes!

@Hansper

Bought this a few weeks ago, having seen it mentioned on another thread. It’s really lovely and I’d definitely recommend it.

I love the Emma hardie balm but it is expensive

I know there’s a lot of love for the cleansing butter from the body shop which I may try when it’s on offer

howdidigettobe50something · 05/04/2021 22:43

I like to use a hot cloth cleanser. I used to use the Liz earl one but usually go with one of the dupes. I'm currently using the Aldi hot cloth cleanser and it's great. I've used the boots and superdrug ones too. Face feels really good afterwards.

doadeer · 05/04/2021 22:47

I think any Balm is effective as it breaks down the makeup without needed to rub and it isn't drying.

I also rate the m&s rose Balm mentioned up thread and you only need a small amount .

I then follow up with a lighter Cleanser like a milk or gel to make sure everything is removed

FeelinglikeEeyore · 05/04/2021 22:53

Another vote here for the Body Shop balm!

FindingMeno · 06/04/2021 07:59

This is brilliant! So many suggestions to look into.
Thanks everyone! I hate waste and don't want to make any more mistakes, so I'm excited to find a good solution.
