50 yo aches and pains

Is this normal, that I have permanent aches and pains in my body, similar to when you've exercised after a long time and then your body aches for a couple of days? It's mostly on my lower back. Any supplements I should be taking? I am on hrt patches by the way.

lborgia no you haven't misunderstood and thank you for your considered response. You're absolutely right that I can't be on Keto and eat sugar, and that the squash might be an issue. In terms of keto/sweets, I have in the past tried to do a completely clean keto but have found it so restrictive and miserable, and not healthy, I guess what I do now is more low carb high ish fat, and treat myself to a small amount of sweets. As for the squash, I do understand it is far from ideal but in the past I have tried to remove it completely, and the result is that I drink way less water.

In terms of the insulin response, if my body reacts to the sweeteners by making me crave sweets, but I don't eat the sweets, will I be able to lose weight, or will that response in itself prevent me from losing weight?

I am going to ring the GP today and see if I can get testosterone. I have noticed my hair breaking on the hairline. So depressing.

Good luck at the GP. I am 49 and have aches and pains alot. An MRI showed wear and tear damage to my spine at the neck and lower back. I also had some nerve pain because of it. It helps to find the cause and hopefully it is something that can be fixed. Exercise definitely helps me.

After agonising about this call all day I've just spoke to GP and been dismissed within 30 seconds. They don't prescribe testosterone, it needs to be done via gynaecologist, she'll do a referral which will take weeks she says. Then I asked for bloods, she asked what for, I said for cholesterol, hormones, ferritin, etc. She said gynaecologist will do that too.
She was spectacularly rude, didn't ask me a single question and couldn't wait to get me off the phone.

I'm so sorry, that's extremely disappointing, shortsighted, but not unexpected. I think it's worth requesting another spot with another GP, and say you realise that the referral for the gynaecologists will take ages, and you'd prefer to have the blood tests now as you are guessing at the hormones idea, and what if it's something easily resolved such as iron, ferritin, or thyroid?

Re: insulin, unfortunately a spike will cause you to burn sugar not fat, and also to store any unused glucose as fat. That's my undertaking anyway. If it's working for you, then don't worry, but that's my understanding.

Ps, the other issue is that testosterone is very important to bone density, so even more important to rule in/ out other issues.

so sorry I can't offer any advice OP.

What kind of magnesium do people use? I have similar issues and started using Flora Floradix Magnesium Liquid Mineral Supplement a couple of months ago but don't see a lot of difference

Mg powder is a good idea.

Mg can cause quite strong stomach issues, so you can start with a pinch, and work your way up.

I would get your thyroid levels checked at GP. I have an under-active thyroid and feel very achy when my levels aren't right. Don't let them fob you off with "normal" either. Ideally your TSH should be below 2 but levels higher than 2 are still within the normal range but can still leave you feeling dreadful. If they are out of whack, too much exercise can make them worse.
