Charm bracelets

Have decided that while girls are young and not demanding Bratz dolls for Xmas I'm going to get them each a charm bracelet (I will also be getting them usual stocking filelrs and other bits and pieces).

I thought each time something happens in their lives, and every year, I, (and others stuck for a gift), can buy them a charm. They don't ever have to wear it, just something nice to keep and maybe pass on to their children. I have my aunts/godmothers old charm bracelet and I love it.

So - do I buy them from -
Tiffany (£100 each)
or from Links (£75 each and comes with a charm if you buy the childrens bracelet or £65 each for the grown up bracelet without a charm)
or from somewhere like the Charm Works where the 2nd most expensive bracelet is only £34???????

Or do you know of somewhere else?

At the end of the day if this is something for them to keep and collect charms on until they are adults and maybe pass on then I want it to be a nice one.

I think that's a lovely idea. I might use it for my dds

I would probably go for 65 pounds for the adult version. Not the childrens version.

When my baby comes I'm going to get her the silver Tiffany one with the little duck charm on it, and I'll have the duck engraved with her name (assuming we're able to settle on one - no luck so far ) and DOB.

I love the idea of buying her charms throughout her life.

If I were you I'd definitely go for either of the quality ones. Your daughters will feel so grown up, getting pale blue boxes with white ribbons (yes, I know it's all marketing and I am a sucker). Their future boyfriends will hate you for making them think that's how all jewellery comes.

Ok thanks. So do we reckon Links or Tiffany?

I've made a couple of personlised sterling silver bracelets for people (there's one on my profile) - but thats a complete bracelet rather than one to add charms onto over time.

I have a Troll bracelet too which is similar in that you can add charms or beads onto it

I have been doing the same thing for DD. I have the Links adult one (I want her to be able to wear it throughout her life). It is great. She is only 15 months so has just four charms.

I got a plain white gold disc engraved with her name and DOB when she was born. I also got this one. www.linksoflondon.com/online-shop/women/charms/6083-stork-and-baby-charm

This one to commemorate her first holiday (over her first birthday)

This one because it is like the Turkish evil eye that they give to all babies (I used to live in Turkey)

Thomas Sabo is fabulous, from there mine, with 5 charms, was I think £150. Definately take a look

Whoops, sorry, commas galore

pageturner · 10/11/2007 18:04

Sorry, I have nothing to add, other than to say what a lovely idea. I have 1 dd and 2 dses, but this would be a beautiful gift to my dd that could grow with her.

I have 3 to buy, eek, but think it's worth doing.

I know this is a super old thread, but anyone have any ideas - if you were doing this for a daughter what could you do similarly for a son so it's not unfair?
