How to hide my massive forehead - curly hair

I’ve always had a big forehead but since having kids my hairline seems to have retreated even further. I’ve had a fringe for the last few years which covers it well. As my hair is naturally curly though I have to straighten the fringe to stop it sticking up vertically and then need to either have my hair scraped back or spend a good 90 minutes straightening it or it looks odd to have a poker straight fringe and messy curls.

I love my natural curls and think they really suit me. If I have any layers cut in at all that are above my ears the hair will stick straight up and look like a coiled spring.

Any tips at all for covering forehead? Has anyone managed to make a curly fringe work or styled a straight fringe (and I mean dead straight, anything other than blow drying it straight down and then straightening results in it sticking out like the visor of a baseball cap) with curly hair?

Your hair is beautiful, Sick

Thanks Sheep 🐑

I used to blow dry my curly fringe with a round brush so it wasn’t poker straight down, it looked ok. I also like big foreheads, big noses, anything that adds a bit of character to a face!

My forehead is Huge, as in Elizabethan, and I've given up trying to hide it. My hair is fine and poker straight too, which I would imagine is far worse than curly. I always imagined if I had "bigger" hair, it would be less noticeable. Anyway I've come to terms with the fact that I can't change it and have embraced the fact that I am now in my 50s and therefore pretty much invisible!

I have a similar problem, if I cut a fringe it ends up as a centimetre roll, horizontal not vericle, I'm seriously tempted to buy these, www.amazon.co.uk/DRESHOW-Running-Headbands-Workout-Accessorie/dp/B08CC9MBJX/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=hygge+bands&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1617390405&sr=8-10

I have curly hair - 2c/3a. I find curling tongs can be really useful to get my curls curling how I want. I use a wand with a barrel the same width as my curl.

You have gorgeous hair @Sickoffamilydrama. I wouldn't put a fringe in it or straighten any of those lovely ringlets. High foreheads are nothing to be ashamed of!

WhereAreWeNow · 02/04/2021 21:39

Sorry @Sickoffamilydrama I thought you were the OP but you're not.

I feel your pain MoonfacedMilksop. I too am blessed / cursed with curls (ringlets) and a bumpy 5 finger forehead. I dream of a fringe to cover up the forehead and the wrinkles!

As a teenager in the 90s I did the straight fringe thing. Looking back, not a good look. I tried a curly fringe but it just went into 3 ringlets. I've asked my brilliant hairdresser about a fringe many times but she tells me my hair type and the direction it grows in would equal a disaster.
First lockdown, I cut myself a fringe and it was indeed a disaster. Looked awful!

I'm forcing myself to embrace my forehead. It's okay when my hair is down but back in a bun or a pony, I feel really self conscious. I have found that adding a mini quiff or a plait to the front of my hair gives a bit of height and balances out the forehead - worth a try!

If I find a solution, I'll let you know...

I have a naturally wavy/curly fringe and I like it like that. I never straighten the rest of my hair so I don't see why I should straighten my fringe! You might need to let it grow a bit longer if it is very curly, just to make it heavy enough to hang downwards. If it's thick and curly, having it thinned out a bit can also help it hang downwards.

MoonfacedMilksop · 03/04/2021 20:59

vanilla I’d love to be able to wear it curly but, as I said, any cut above my jawline results in it sticking up vertically or if I spend ages blow drying it down or pinning it down with clips over night it will still look like a headdress from A Handmaids Tale within a couple of hours Sad. I think the only option is headbands or embracing my massive forehead.

No offence taken and the sentiment was lovely thanks @WhereAreWeNow what I was trying to do is show the OP that imperfection is beautiful. My hair is wild, unruly & seems to have good & bad days but I love it because it's mine.
