What are non frumpy trousers for 40 year old pear shaped mum of two who is feeling down!

Struggling with trousers to meet my exacting requirements! Any thoughts?

I have two under two and recovering from birth and to my horror have the odd leak through pads. Now the weather is warmer, I need something to flatter "strong legs" though overall I'm fairly slim- size ten 5 ft 5 and about 57kg. I'm an older mum - 40. Something on trend, good in the cooler weather and that can be worn with comfortable shoes and not show up stains (or leaks Blush) too much.

Not had any joy with chinos which make me look frumpy.

Don't want to spend vast amounts as they may get ruined by kids/body still changing. Can any of you suggest anything ?!! I need cheered up - I look a wreck! Thanks Flowers

Boden Richmonds

Thanks Hopping, those are lovely but quite smart for day to day crawling on the floor. Maybe I need several types of new trousers!

My go to is always Uniqlo bcos I too have a small budget. They have a large range of durable trousers.

Homassy · 01/04/2021 12:26

Thanks @Frequentflier - any suggestions on the style - I feel very out my depth knowing what might look ok!

So sorry, but I am both non-trendy and also an apple, so not sure what would suit exactly. But something like this?www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-double-faced-stretch-straight-leg-trousers-433785.html
Also please note that Uniqlo has no free returns any more:(

I really like these. www.monki.com/en_gbp/clothing/trousers-shorts/trousers/product.super-soft-trousers-green.0484648003.html

They come in different colours and I'm 5'5 so they aren't as cropped as the ones on the model. Unbelievably comfortable to wear.

Homassy · 01/04/2021 15:56

Thanks @stayathomenightmare. I like a wide leg. What footwear do you wear with them please?

I have a big bum and a wide hips / chunky thighs and also have a slight incontinence problem after ds was born. I find H&M’s wide legged high waisted trousers a god send. They are light and comfy and don’t rub your pad area. They also look really nice.
stayathomenightmare · 01/04/2021 16:31

I generally wear my comfy trainers. I haven't had them for the summer yet so maybe sandals when it's warm enough.

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/04/2021 16:35

I live in asda's wonder fit skinny black jeans. Hide a multitude of sins, comfy and can be smart or casual. They look trendier with the bottoms turned up and worn with canvas shoes or trainers and can also look good with heels or sandals.

I wear them with trainers and t shirts so not very smart but I can see that they might be pricey for crawling around the floor in

Have a look at these Mom fit twill trousers I have two pairs (black and grey) and they are really soft and comfortable. I'm also pear shaped (and stumpy legged!) and these are actually really flattering as they have a good amount of space in the thigh and bum area but being quite high waisted, actually fit well around my waist too. If you have a look at the reviews, you'll see that they are highly rated by pear shapes!

Plus, they are only £12.99 and as H&M do free delivery and free return for members, you may as well try one pair.

schroeder · 01/04/2021 19:01

Dammit I just ordered some stuff from h&m, I wish I had seen those trousers before.

Homassy · 01/04/2021 19:01

Thank you all Smile and @GrumpyHoonMain thanks for the specific ‘ok with a pad’ recommendation. It’s the pits isn’t it. Takes the shine off having a little one x

I don’t think I can help you with the trousers but I wonder if you have tried special underwear to help with the leaks? I have period underwear from Thinx but they do pants designed for bladder leaks too: www.shethinx.com/pages/speax which should work in combination with your pads. There is a UK based alternative too: www.modibodi.co.uk/ They would double up as period pants too so hopefully they’d be useful to you long-term making them better value for money. Good luck finding something that works for you!

Pinkappleblossom · 01/04/2021 20:48

Also wish I had bought those hm trousers!

I seem to be recommending this lady all the time here, (def no affiliation except for my passion for the recovery of my diastasis) but julie Baird at ourfitfamilylife is an amazing French physio who does unbelievably great pelvic floor strengthening and core work, I do it for the stomach flattening and general strengthening but she talks a lot about improving post natal incontinence. She has a six week post natal program that is about 20 mins every other day and then one small exercise on the off day. France does seem to approach these things differently to us - another recommendation is what they call ‘a sonde’ (i think) which you can buy similarly here called kegel8 on Amazon.

I cannot believe that there are not more resources given to women.

Sorry if this is not what you are looking for! I have more recommendations if you want but you may know all this and just want some nice trews.

Homassy · 01/04/2021 21:00

@Pinkappleblossom and @ToManderleyAgain thank you for the links , which are very much welcomed! I’m only two weeks pp so I’m hoping things will improve but v v worried they won’t so really grateful. Also lacking confidence in going out for walks , which is really important to me so the pants and recommendations for pelvic floor are so helpful Flowers Flowers

You poor thing, it’s tough but there are so many things to make it so much better.

mommybodybliss.ourfitfamilylife.com/

Here’s the lady I spoke of. I think period pants would also be a good call.

There are teardrop pelvic weights, elvie which seems to have an app that tells you if you’re doing the pelvic moves right, and if later on you’re still not happy, there’s a treatment called geneveve that is supposed to be v good.

Otherwise, I found tesco highwaisted skinny jeggings at £20, a long vest, a sort of mannish long shirt or some drapy shirts with saltwater sandals or Nike airs the best combo for getting clothes on and on with shit!

Two weeks pp is hard! It all gets SO much easier! And more stylish!

Comfortzone · 01/04/2021 21:49

M&S jeggings a£20 approx. Absolutely fab, hold everything in, really nice with flat shoes or boots. Lots of colours available. Kind of a denim cotton fabric so not the usual sport leggings

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 01/04/2021 21:54

Those Monki trousers look the bollocks, think I might have to invest!

I love M and S jeggins as well, very comfy and keep their shape well. I do find, as a pear shape that I prefer to wear longer tops with them.

Squiz81 · 01/04/2021 22:26

Next clearance site won’t let me do a direct link to the item, so I’ve added a photo - i have these Fat Face tencel trousers in navy and khaki. They are really comfy and hold their shape better than similar ones I got from Hush and paid a lot more for. They look good with trainers and I will wear them with sandals when it warms up. They are one of those trousers that you can dress up or also go casual, and are comfortable enough to run after kids in.

Ah I have this issue.
Find it hard to find any clothes. I really wish I could just go online and order whole outfits that someone else had put together:

Recruit2020 · 01/04/2021 23:42

Im with the Asda wonderfit jeans, Asos Linen dad trousers, fairly new anticipating petite landing soon (they are long and im 5'8) but a really nice fit and fabric x

Givemeabreakpls · 02/04/2021 00:01

I’ve just bought the H&M trousers - thanks for the tip!
