In-shower eye makeup remover

I'm looking for a product to remove mascara in the shower. Really want some kind of miracle stuff that probably doesn't exist. I'm about to have my first baby and currently I spend ages in the shower. I'm trying to prepare so I can be really fast and still be able to wear a bit of makeup. I just bought DHC deep cleansing oil which is ok and feels like it's good for delicate eyelid skin but still takes a fair amount of rubbing. Any recommendations gratefully received!

Bodyshop camomile balm. It's miracle stuff! I keep mine in the shower and it works very well!

SummaLuvin · 31/03/2021 15:01

It’s a similar type of product, but having tried both I much prefer it, Dear Klairs - Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. Generally an oil/balm cleanser will breakdown eye makeup more effectively and gently than a foaming, milky, or jelly cleanser.

Estee Lauder Night Cleansing Balm or Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm! Both are almost identical though Clinique's has no fragrance and EL has a slight fragrance (which I prefer). It has the texture of coconut oil and melts when you rub it in. Doesn't irritate eyes at all and perfect for getting everything off under the shower.

Thanks for the great recommendations everyone. I'm rabbit-holing about them now, can't decide how much to spend...

Try letting it sit for a bit too so it starts to break down the makeup
So don't just slap it on and start removing it! Give it chance to work. Like cleaning products etc Grin

FreshFaceTime · 31/03/2021 16:29

You could try the clinique facial soap? Removes my makeup and my face actually squeaks after I've used it Grin

Also I know you didn't ask about this but in anticipation of having a newborn + limited time I've been using Nivea in-shower moisturiser and it's soooo good for cutting down shower time without having to skip the moisturiser bit because you can't be faffed waiting to dry before getting dressed.

LongHairDontCare38 · 31/03/2021 16:30

Also spray on body moisturiser! Game changer

thinkningaboutit · 31/03/2021 16:40

Muslin face cloth then whatever cleanser you have is the most effective I've found. Using the cloth really lets me wipe away the mascara.

Doughnut100 · 31/03/2021 17:02

@freshfacetime thanks that's a good tip. I have Lush buffy the buttslayer and it's really good for that too. It's an exfoliating block but it leaves a coating of really lovely waxy moisturiser on your skin too. Also I just bought L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil as it's supposed to be very moisturising.

@LongHairDontCare38 Ooh I'll have to look into spray on body moisturiser...

@CoffeeDay I went for the Estee Lauder Night Cleansing Balm as it was on sale at allbeauty.

@cactuscushion I'm also going to get a travel size of the bodyshop camomile balm for a few quid off ebay too as it has excellent reviews!

Right now I'm so enormous there's no point buying clothes, and when the baby is here I'll start living out of the joint account and have bugger all income so I won't feel right spending loads on luxuries. So I'm splurging and treating myself on beauty products while I still can. I'm sure there are worse ways to panic about a baby coming!

@Doughnut100 the L'Occitane shower oil sounds like something I need to add to my list!

Conditionconditioncondition · 31/03/2021 17:08

Tropic cleanser.

I have tried EVERYTHING and it is life changing.
Somehow, it removes every trace of makeup, yet even when I get loads in my eye it doesn't sting

It's great stuff and lasts ages

AlwaysLatte · 31/03/2021 17:09

I use Johnson's facial wipes (in the pink package) which get it all off. Then I use a hot cloth cleanser.

Fispi · 31/03/2021 18:18

I'm looking for the same things for the same reasons. My toddler is quite happy to play with my make up brushes whilst I quickly cover up the tired eyes but I remember it's not always so easy with a newborn so I want to have better products in than last time.

I love Clinique TTDO but am going to try the Ordinary Squaline as a friend loves it and it's so much cheaper.

Love the idea of in shower moisturiser! Will pick up the Nivea. I was thinking shower oil but I was worried about making it really slippy for DC and DH.

I've been slowly switching up my make up to multipurpose products. Next on the list is BB cream with SPF.

I've found my Tresemme heat protection spray means I dont need to bother with conditioner even if I dont dry or style my hair.

dontputitinyourmouth · 31/03/2021 22:29

The Clinique balm will get rid of everything, literally jst massage it in then rinse off, I wear double wear and it gets rid of it easily.

Doughnut100 · 01/04/2021 07:41

@Fispi snap!

Nice tip about the heat protecting spray.
I tried to get a nice 2in1 shampoo & conditioner, got the cowshed one and it's fine but doesn't really condition at all. I have chin length hair and combing it after a shower is still a chore.

But don't get me started on sun cream it's the worst part.
I'm very pale so I need spf50 and haven't found an easy apply non sticky one yet. I have my eye on bare minerals spf30 tinted moisturiser to try when shops open as I'm done with trying to judge colours online 😂. I love cerave spf25 face moisturiser as it has hyaluronic acid and niacinimide in it which I was previously using separately and took ages. But I still need higher spf sun cream in addition annoyingly. It might work for you if you don't need high spf. And it's really cheap!

I use vegetable oil. Gentle, minimal rubbing just smear it on and rinse off.

TheQueenIsDeaf · 01/04/2021 08:02

Have you thought about using a tubing mascara? I use Blinc and it's completely waterproof and just comes off in hot water.

Fispi · 01/04/2021 08:04

@Doughnut100 I am also ghostly pale! I was looking at the Erborian BB cream or the Bareminerals Complexion Rescue and an SPF spray like the la Roche posay/garnier SPF 50 for regular top up. I feel a spray would be quicker than powder SPF but I am intrigued by some of the powder ones I've seen. Might be easier just to buy an enormous sun hat Grin

Supergoop CC screen is SPF 50 and I'd love to try it but its online only at the moment and like you I'm wary of getting the wrong colour. I'm hoping Cult Beauty will start stocking it as they have some of the Supergoop SPFs already. I emailed to ask but apparently all their new launches are top secret!

This is so gentle and non-irritating. Lovely for facial massage in the shower, then take off with a damp cloth.

FreshFaceTime · 01/04/2021 12:12

@Fispi I've used the Erborian BB and Bare Minerals complexion rescue and like both but it depends what coverage you're after. Bare Minerals is super light coverage, which I love, but if I want to take it up a notch I'd go for the Erborian BB cream. They do smaller sizes too so you can spend about £15 on a smaller one before investing in the full size if you want to try it? I think they only do a few shades so if you're pale you can just go with the lightest one? With the Bare Minerals, because it's such light coverage you'll probably find you can get away with a couple of different shades and it'll be fairly forgiving. I took a punt on a lockdown shade last year and am perfectly happy with it - have reordered the same shade multiple times since.

Fispi · 01/04/2021 13:04

Thanks @FreshFaceTime the Erborian keeps getting recommended so I'll probably try a small size of that first Smile
