Just that really Smile

I'm reading about hyaluronic cream v retinol for eyes. What would you recommend please?

Would prefer not to pay more than approximately £25-£30.

TIA

Watching with interest. I tried a couple of hyaluronic eye cream things but it was cheapy Original stuff and made the skin around my eyes feel dry and sensitive with no discernible difference. I would be happy with it just feeling a bit tighter and would pay more too but don't know where to start.

Hyaluronic acid only acts very temporarily so it's no miracle worker, don't be taken in by the hype, it has its uses but it's limited.

Retinol can help but there's very few formulated for eyes that actually do a good job of it and they'd be well above your budget, Verso Super Eye Serum (not the cream) and Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum (again, not the cream). The latter is one of the few products that's been tested for safety to use on lids too (eye products should normally only be used around the eye not on it). I've used the Verso on my eyelids with no issues but YMMV.

For HA you don't need to splash out, Bioderma Sensibio Eye gel is hydrating and has hyaluronic acid and has silicones which will artificially smooth over a bit, doesn't adress the issue in the long term though.

Thank you for those suggestions @botemp

@botemp, would really appreciate your advice on using regular moisturiser around the eyes, followed after 15m in by prescription Tretinoin? Mad?

Bog standard moistuiser that doesn't bother you and carefully buffering Tret on top?

Officially, speak to your dermatologist and have them clear it. I do this and it's been fine (did clear it with my derm though and they just scoffed and said go ahead why ask 🤷).

I'd wait 30mins to start with though, and use sparingly, remember it's one pea sized amount of grey for the entire face so use the teeniest tiniest amount (or just as part of that pea size portion all over the face and spread it closer to the eye).

HA in the morning, retinol at night.

botemp · 30/03/2021 09:17

*Sorry Tret not grey, that reads a bit odd thanks to autocorrect.

requitalissima · 30/03/2021 09:33

Excellent, thank you! @botemp
Will see my dermatologist on Thursday, shall get all-clear from her.
Shall hit the Fantastic Skincare threads now for leisurely reading. Credit Cards handed to DH for safekeeping meanwhile.

Anyone looking for a cheaper option for an eye cream that smoothes and brightens dark circles its worth a look at superdrug optimum collegen eye cream. i just got some and swear i can see an improvement after 3 uses, its 12.99 but the range is bogof at the moment.
