Allergic to Hair dye .... help!

Hi, I am allergic to hair dye and had a pretty bad reaction in red scaly blisters etc. I have tried It's Pure which is wonderful being organic henna etc but it does not stay on my hair for more than a week when the colour starts to disappear off of grey hairs. Anyone use any other 'pure' colour for blondes that stays put please? Cannot have any dodgy chemicals.

The daniel field water dyes are ok

Miltonglade · 29/03/2021 11:57

GlamGiraffe - Don't they have a little PPD in them? Do you have an allergy and use them yourself?

I am allergic to hair dye, I tried everything and reacted to everything. I've had to embrace the grey and honestly it was the best decision!

I use Wells EOS vegetable dye which I think is PPD free, and it covers my greys really well (it says 50% coverage on first application but I found it completely blended them in, whereas Daniel Field, for example, didn’t). I do it once a month. I am brunette though so can’t vouch for the blonde shades.

Thanks for this! I have been looking for something as I'm getting greyer and greyer. Planned to try henna/indigo but very nervous I'll look like a goth! Will give Wella a whirl.

Give up dying your hair? Confusedwithin 6 months no one will notice or care ( unless you are in the public eye, in which case tell us who you are so we can give truthful opinion)!

I've heard beetroot turns stuff red? What colour are you trying to achieve?

LeeMiller · 29/03/2021 16:39

Oh I hope you like it @dividedwefall ! I dithered for months and eventually decided to get it done in a salon but due to lockdown I ended up buying some myself and haven't looked back, it makes my hair really shiny. It is based on henna, indigo etc but is very natural looking on me. I have heard good things about Lush henna too, but apparently it's a faff to make up.

I am also allergic. I go to Natural Colour Works hair salon in London (Soho) and have my hair died using water colour.

Im also allergic to ppd so have taken to bleach and semi permanent random colours but would love to stay dark. Any recommendations of where to buy the Wella from?

greenlynx · 29/03/2021 18:26

I would look at semi permanent hair colour, they are usually more gentle. And yes to Wella.

Miltonglade · 30/03/2021 11:29

Anyone used Surya they do both powder and cream versions of henna and nuts etc natural extracts - but not sure how pure the cream version is (they are semi permanent)

Yes, I have allergies and have used a Surya henna cream blonde shade. It was fine. I would do a patch test every time though of course.

Middicat · 30/03/2021 17:49

LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy Can I ask did you use the cream or powder of Surya please?

I have used the cream a couple of times now. It blended in my grey streaks temporarily. I can't use normal hair dye on my scalp or have my eyebrows tinted so I was pleased that this henna cream didn't cause a reaction.
DiscoJanet · 30/03/2021 18:46

I'm allergic too, and haven't found any home dye I can use. But my hairdresser uses Natulique which is amazing, permanent colour, and I don't react at all.

It's obviously been hideous over the past three months not being able to go 😩 I am dark brunette and pretty much 50% grey/white and absolutely not ready to embrace the grey yet.

If you can hold out a couple of weeks try and find a salon that can get hold of some.
