Skincare Product confusion (with rosacea added in!)

I'm 51 and feeling it so have decided to start taking skincare more seriously! I have read the S &B boards for recommendations . I have sensitive skin so have opted for the following- morning- Avene tolerance cleanser, Medix 8 Vit C , Niod hydraulic , Bioderm moisturiser for sensitive skin., Helio SPF 50. In the evening Avene cleanser and skin and me. I'm finding after the SPF if i rub my skin grey bits come off. I'm also wondering if i'm using too many products or is something else causing this?

To complicate matters I think i probably have rosacea, i only suffer from flushing but my nose in is particularly red. I'm now wondering if i should get something for that, I have read Soolantra or rosex is effective and also Azeliac acid. Can anyone advise if I can add these to my current regime or if i was just using them would i have to drop something. If i did use one of the 3 which would be better? I'm really confused and slightly over whelmed with the choice . I'm also worried im using too many products but i do want a regime that makes a difference. Any advice or pointers gratefully received!

Your regime sounds good.

The only things I would say is just use the Hyaluronic when you need it. It helps when your skin looks dehydrated.
Go canny with the vit c, make sure you build up tolerance to it.
Maybe add an oil cleanser in the pm to break up the spf then use your cream cleaner to clean the skin.
Are the bit due to pilling? I get that if products contain silicone.

Geamhradh · 29/03/2021 13:50

It will be the HA causing the pilling probably. Remember to use it on damp skin and to wait before using anything else.

Similar age to you with rosacea prone skin too. And I've been using skin+me for a couple of months now, with great results. I have pared back my routine as I know my skin wouldn't tolerate the vitamin C in the morning as well as the skin+me in the evening. My routine looks like this:
AM: Cleanser, SPF
PM: Cleanser, skin+me (moisturiser if needed)

My suggestion would be to simplify further, rosacea skins are best suited to a simple routine of minimal, oil free products. My skin+me prescription contains azelaic acid already, check your prescription. Contact skin+me about your concerns, rosacea is one of the things that they will be looking to treat in the future. Understand what could happen to your skin if you mix Soolantra/Rosex prescriptions with skin+me prescriptions.

@Girlintheframe- I've just bought Micellar water will that be ok instead of an oil cleanser?

@Geamhradh - I haven't been doing that. I use Vit c first the HA. Do I need to wet my skin in between or shall I use HA first.

Thanks both for your replies, all a learning curve at the moment!

Yes miscellar water will be fine.

I use NIOD hyaluronic acid and it's never pilled. I put it on after vit C too.
I think it will either be your moisturizer or spf that's causing the pilling.
Sometimes you need to experiment with products to find the right one for you.

Geamhradh · 29/03/2021 20:00

Oh it's all a learning curve and I'm a skincare addict! I learned yesterday that HA should be put on before any toners etc as well, whereas I'd always gone cleanse, tone, serum!

@ damfino. You are right my skin and me prescription does include azeliac acid. I will contact skin and me. I think rather than cut out everything ive bought i might reduce and not use every day, maybe alternate.

@Girlintheframe you are right i think its the spf although it doesn't seem to be as bad as it was so i might have to continue and when its finished try a different brand.

I know you have to try different stuff to see what suits your skin . its just a bit annoying when you spend a fair bit of money and tried to resreach all you can only then to find it doesn't suit your skin!

Yes I totally agree! Can be very expensive. It's really frustrating too when you buy things that's others swear by but they don't work for you

I've started trying to get samples before splurging. Look fantastic offer a few and you only pay postage. Sure other places do them too or trial sizes.

FindingMeno · 02/04/2021 20:06

I use rozex before my other stuff, just leaving a chance for it to soak in. It does improve my rosacea.
I was told not to exfoliate or use anything that skin peels.
I think its better to have a simple routine with rosacea as it needs to be dealt with gently.
I use hyaluronic acid containing products and if I want to use an oil I find rosehip oil suits me.

cheesenpickle · 02/04/2021 22:19

@Girlintheframe. Using samples is a good idea. I was a bit impatient however having wasted money on stuff that aggravates my skin i need to be a bit more savvy now!

@FindingMeno thats good to hear. Im a bit cautious now but would love to find something that works. Fed up always looking ' rosey'.

Skin + Me has really helped me. Prior to that I had good results on my rosacea with Aloha-H Liquid Gold.

moimichme · 04/04/2021 11:27

I have rosacea too and only recently started with some vitamin C products, which my skin seems to like so far. However, I think it's the type 2 pustules kind that I have. Off the back of a thread on here I got Soolantra and within a week it really seems to be helping, both with redness and the bumps. Fingers crossed this treatment will continue to be effective - I've had this 'bad skin' for over 15 years now. Sad

Good luck with the experimentation - I know how frustrating it can be!
