Lose weight or buy new (bigger) clothes

Just that really. I have 13 week old baby. I'm early forties. I'm not just going to spring back into my size 8s like I did first time round in my 20s. I haven't really tried to lose weight yet but I'm not sure if I can be bothered. All my clothes are a size 8/10 and I'm probably a 12 right now. I feel pretty huge but I'm tired and I don't want to deprive myself and be hungry and tired. Shall I just buy bigger clothes?

Well you need something to wear now but you are bound to lose a bit of weight anyway- it's early days. Maybe buy a couple of things you can mix and match to tide you over and see where your weight settles in a few months?

You're still slim you could get some 12s but don't throw the old clothes away just yet as you're likely to shrink back.
I am a size 6/8 but went up to a 10 during pregnancy in most clothes (obviously not belts lol) and it took me a whole year to fit back into my old clothes so bought some new ones not expensive but they got a whole year of wear :) I would have been naked otherwise!

In a similar position OP! I have bought a few bigger sweatshirts and t shirt to tide me over until I can lose weight. Hoping it happens naturally once the weather is better and we can get out and about a bit more. Bottoms wise I bought some Hush harems and joggers for pregnancy so just wearing them with new tops to feel a bit more put together.

With the age your baby is I wouldn't try and lose weight if you're not feeling up to it. You have to be in the right frame of mind or its pointless. Maybe get some cheaper new clothes for just now to make you feel comfortable and better? Then in a few months when/if you want to lose weight you won't have spent too much money

Ahh thanks guys, don't know why I'm stressing about it 😂 I'm mostly wearing pyjamas and squeezing into size 8 or 10 jeans for the school run. At least we're in lockdown and I don't have to go anywhere at the moment! I just went on the Dorothy Perkins sale and ordered 2 pairs of jeans and 2 dresses for £50, bargain.

I regret throwing clothes away after pregnancies. I actually ended up being the thinnest I have ever been in my early 40s with two under 2 - just from all the non stop running around/work/stress. Keep your clothes but just get a few cheap bits for now.

I would buy a couple of pairs of not expensive jeans and a couple of tshirts. You'll slim down...or maybe not, but you need something to wear right now without feeling uncomfortable. God knows, you've enough on your plate with a tiny baby. Don't punish yourself into losing weight by wearing nothing but pjs or too small clothes.

It shouldn't even need to be said, but unless you are 3 foot tall, a size 12 isn't huge! I know it's all relative and if YOU feel big, it's just because it isn't what you're used to, but do give yourself a break Smile

get some (cheap) nice clothes for now, and maybe think about losing weight when you're ready, if you choose. It is frustrating - I have a sore and swollen abdomen following surgery, which may well stay swollen for 3 months. I can't fit into my clothes other than joggers, so have just bought a couple of loosish dresses and some bigger, looser trousers. I feel SO much better for having something nice to wear, for a total spend of £65.
