What to do with too-long jeans?

What with one thing and another I’m short of well-fitting jeans. In a moment of madness while grabbing some food in M&S a couple of weeks ago I grabbed some heavily discounted Magic Jeans in solid black (as per pic attached) to see whether they’d fit.

They do fit pretty well on waist and arse, and are reasonably flattering but because I blatantly ignored the fact that they are an L fit and I am 5’4”, they are a good 3 inches too long. Because lockdown I’ve been wearing them anyway rolled up, but it’s not a great look. I look exactly what I am, a short woman wearing jeans that are much too long for me.

I think because they’re solid black and reasonably smart looking cutting the bottoms off with a ragged edge would be a mistake? and my sewing machine isn’t hardcore enough to hem them myself. So I guess the right answer is to get the local dry cleaner to take them up. What length should I go for, given that we’re going into summer? What’s the right way to make sure I’m specifying the right length? And what shoes/socks to wear with them?

Its very easy to take jeans up by hand if you don't want to risk machining them. They are right near the ground, so no one is going to check to see if they've ben professionally stitched. Alternatively someone locally who can do it for you

As a short person the ankle grazing doesnt suit me, so I just do the above shoe thing and wear with white trainers with a bit of a platform.

Do they look annoying because the roll up is too chunky? If so can you cut a chunk of the bottom and then roll should make it a bit of a smaller turn up? No raw edge that way.

I think the problem is partly the chunkyness of the roll up, but mostly that their relatively formal style is at odds with having a roll up at all.

Could your machine cope with shortening the jeans like this?
