48yr old here. I am curious where people shop on line for clothes..not really interested in the high street brands, don't like Asos and can't afford Net A Porter.. I am sure there are so many other interesting options that deliver quality and style but don't cost the earth. Please share the knowledge..thank you in advance x

What's your style?

Martinisarebetterdirty · 27/03/2021 09:10

Cos, sezane, arket, the OUTNET, ba&sh, jeans from Abercrombie and Fitch, sometimes John Lewis and sometimes brand alley.

DianaT1969 · 27/03/2021 09:16

Brakeburn
The Pretty Dress Company
Seasalt
Boden
Joe Browns
Toast
Personally I prefer online from Cos and cotton basics from H&M.

seensome · 27/03/2021 09:18

Mint Velvet
esprit
And other stories

Nanasueathome · 27/03/2021 09:22

Toast...but only in the sale

jewel1968 · 27/03/2021 09:23

Uniqlo

DinosaurDiana · 27/03/2021 09:25

Next because you can order as much as you want, and return it, without having to pay out and wait for a refund.

KarensChoppyBob · 27/03/2021 09:28

Can I ask what you don't like about ASOS? it's not all crop tops and leggings :)

StCharlotte · 27/03/2021 09:28

White Stuff

Monsoon (bit hit and miss but when it's a hit it's a real hit)

KarensChoppyBob · 27/03/2021 09:30

Reason I ask is I recently bought a summery dress (optimistic I know) from &OtherStories on there and am a bit in luff with it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/03/2021 09:33

Cos
Arket
Monki
H and M

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/03/2021 09:33

Other Stories too

mutinyonthebunty · 27/03/2021 09:39

I really like Otrium at the moment, lots of good brands and some I hadn't heard of.

FreekStar · 27/03/2021 09:52

I'm 48 as well. I buy a lot from:
Hush,
Jigsaw sale section- great quality and often 70% off,
Mint Velvet,
And other Stories,
French Connection,
Whistles- from Next clearance section- great reductions!
Me&Em- only in sale though!

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 09:53

OP take a look at the Les Parisiennes thread(s) on MN - they are relentless seekers after style and most of it seems to be mid-range. And obviously all online.

I'm not on it myself as I revel in delusions of grandeur but buy very little. Here are some of my go to places:

Acne Studios
Community Clothing
Envoy of Belfast
Free People
Hervia Bazaar
La Double J
La Fetiche
Lemaire
LN-CC
Margaret Howell
Marques Almeida
Matches Fashion (much more approachable than N-a-P)
Mouki Mou
Nigel Cabourn
Old-Town
Rick Owens
Soeur
Studio Nicholson
Young British Designers (it's a single shop)

(I haven't included Uniqlo as it's High St - but it's where a I've bought most of my lockdown wardrobe. Or TK Maxx, whose Gold Label is an absolute godsend, if one visits an actual shop.) Almost all of the shops listed have amazing sales, and there's something deeply satisfying about a 'bargain'. I am a good few years older than you, btw.

VictoriaLudorum · 27/03/2021 10:00

Zalando
Hobbs
LK Bennett
Jigsaw (but no longer as it has stopped deliveries to Europe)
John Lewis (but have stopped as it uses too much plastic)
The Outnet
Net-a-Porter
Ganni
Breuninger
COS
Pure Cashmere
Triology
Paul Smith
Used to buy Jaeger online
Ditto East - brilliant for linen dresses etc. for hot holidays

thedevilinablackdress · 27/03/2021 10:51

Rapanui
Finisterre
COS
Toast (sale)

Sooverthemill · 27/03/2021 11:07

Hush
Baukjen
Mango
H&M
Boden
John Lewis
ASOS
The people shop
NRBY
Sezane
Air and grace
Russell and Bromley
Black white denim
Collen and Clare
Atterley
Matches
Net a Porter
Trouva

MaverickDanger · 27/03/2021 11:08

ASOS, H&M, John Lewis and Saint & Sofia mainly.

beebeabee · 27/03/2021 14:51

wow! so much to explore which I never heard of. All these hidden websites..

@DianaT1969 my style?.. hmm..I would say casual with a twist if that make sense so COS / Other stories / Jigsaw works for some things. COS sometimes looks too much like curtains or too boxy. Fabrics can be wired. Other Stories looks good on the model but not on me :(.. Recently I am craving loose linens and super soft joggers and jumpers for the obvious reasons but like things to look smart and sophisticated, but must be easy to wear and super comfortable.. I also love Paul Smith but too expensive and not casual enough, so not for everyday. I am also quite short so find most of its clothes best suited for taller women.

@PursuingProxemicExactitude Im intrigue by the Les Parisiennes. Me too, I go to Uniqlo for comfort clothing but I simply can't deal with the TK Maxx thing, I find this shop too overwhelming.

@KarensChoppyBob I took a quick look at Asos recently and was put off by the vastly teenage vibe and all the sexy poses...kind of weird. Maybe I just need to dig a bit more as I didn't manage to pass the crop tops and legging sections :).. So they sale brands too? Haha.. I didn't notice that.

@DinosaurDiana I hear you about Next. That is what I find annoying about online clothe shopping. 9/10 I need to send stuff back, I think with clothes you really want to look at the fabric closely and try before you buy, so much looks good on other people but when I try it on..Confused

I'm going to get busy shopping.. thanks all so much for your great pointers, keep it coming!

I rarely buy anything in an actual shop. 99.9% of everything I buy is online. I'm housebound even without Covid I never go out
