Makeup products you could not live / Help me freshen my look

I find that no matter what I apply to my skin, it looks grey/washed out and obvious that there's makeup. (Applies to any powdery proucts/ blush/ bronzer/ highlight etc)
So I tend to go bare or minimal skin makeup eg BB cream only then apply nice mascara and nude lipstick for an everyday look.

For special occasions I might put on eyeliner +/- eye shadow.
Of course we can't go to shops to try products out at the moment, but does anyone have recommendations for foolproof products?

Thanks and happy friday!

Clarins flash balm rarely wear foundation now this give skin a definite lift
Cheaper option Superdrug Naturally Radiant Radiance

Oh gorgeous base to work with. I’m a porcelain and it’s a battle to not look grey with a red nose. Given you have very warm colouring, I wonder if some of the products you’re using are too pale in colour or have too cool a base tone which would look grey and ashy on you? I’m not a make up artist and we’ve different tones so I’m no expert - but I wonder if it might be that.

The other thing would be to make sure your skin is well exfoliated and moisturised before applying make up. The bouncier you can get it, the better. I’m loving the new Fenty day cream for that at the mo. It’s at the pricier end though.

I like the Trinny London products - Veebee is my current favourite on eyes and cheeks

@Watchingthetelly - thank you for the advice, I did wonder this! Had since bought darker products and found it was just too dark whether that's because the range of shades don't transition as smoothly on the darker end or if it genuinely was just too dark for me, I am not sure. This was a couple of years ago before covid and went to a clinique makeup counter and got matched up, still had the same issue of feeling like I looked grey...

So have just stopped wearing skin makeup or will only apply the smallest amount/mix in with moisturiser to avoid greying out. What is a girl to do...

Thank you I will look into Fenty. I'm usually ok on the exfoliating front (use nip & fab, think it works a treat!) Also have an electric cleaner/exfoliator.

Just really at a loss with what to do and haven't bothered with make up but I would really like to be able to put some on now and again, happy to invest in decent quality stuff too (its just a bit risky on the internet, e.g nude lipstick will definitely not be nude on me etc)

I only discovered this recently, but it’s absolutely incredible: it’s a tinted skin serum from a brand called Typology.
I’m nearly 44 with sensitive, acne prone skin, also fine lines and redness (joy!), and it’s the only thing I’ve ever used that does what it says. It makes my skin look fresh, glowy and alive, and hasn’t made me break out.

It’s totally fool proof!
With your skin tone, I’d say that the Medium would suit you.
Seriously, it’s amazing!!

I am loving Trinny London BFF cream though I’m a lot paler than you.

Watchingthetelly · 26/03/2021 17:23

@as141 ah hope I’ve been somewhat helpful so! Because I’m so pale I’m really conscious of the tones in make up because I can easily end up with a big pink or orange face Grin. I hear so many brands are rubbish for darker tones. Might be worth trying Fenty? They always sell themselves on products not looking ashy

tigerbear · 26/03/2021 17:24

Also, if you’re unsure which shade to get, or between shades, they let you order a second one half price. The lightest one is too light for me, but the next shade too dark, but both mixed together looks incredible.

Just seen this. I love Nip Fab too! I struggle with nudes also (they look brown or grey on me) but have had great success with Bobbi Brown lipsticks. I find their blush the best too for properly cool undertones. I don’t know if they’re any cop for warm tones but might be worth a look
PradaBallbag · 26/03/2021 17:28

I love Glossier perfecting skin tint or Trinny BFF. Both available in all skin shades. Brighten up the skin with light coverage.

I'm also loving cream blushers at the minute - Trinny lip to cheek or Glossier cloud paint.

Can you tell what my favourite makeup brands are at the moment?!
