Do you have a 'uniform'?

IllNeverLetGoJack · 26/03/2021 14:35

Not an actual uniform, like a nurse or fire fighter would wear; just clothes you wear all the time.

I'm trying to do this to take some of the decision making out of getting dressed every morning. I don't need to dress up for an office or anything, so this should be easily achievable and then I can get rid of some less hardworking items in my wardrobe too!

No but I have an app called stylebook.

You photograph all of your clothes etc snd then create outfits.

If you log them everyday it helps filter out what you don't wear.

Have to admit I've been in gym leggings and t shirts for 12 months but I'm looking forward to using it again so I can de clutter my wardrobe.

queenofthenorthwest · 26/03/2021 14:43

Sometimes I just sit here creating outfits when I'm bored!

Thanks! I wear a lot of leggings too at the moment.

I really want style book, but they don't do it for android phones! Or they didn't last time I checked. I tried an android friendly alternative and it wasn't great.

Maybe I can achieve the same thing with a written inventory though.

Yes, kind of started post baby but now I’ve stuck with it as I’m good at knowing what suits me.

Usually black skinny jeans with a long line vest top and a t-shirt or 3/4 length top. Tops are usually dark blue, grey or breton-type striped ones. I have some mustard and khaki as well, particularly jumpers in winter.

I have a few midi dresses in the same colours or leopard print (my favourite ) and some jersey midi/maxi dresses for summer in black/navy/khaki.

Shoes are usually tan chelsea boots, chunky trainers or flat tan sandals. Heels for special occasions.

Coats are camel or navy or grey.

Saying that I’ve just ordered some more coloured/patterned tops for spring/being able to socialise again!

PrincessNutNuts · 26/03/2021 15:01

Currently? Black sweatshirt and joggers with fluffy socks. I throw a necklace on for Zoom if I'm speaking. Grin

RacheyCat · 26/03/2021 15:03

Yes, I do. Not every day, but the majority of my work wardrobe is midi skirts of various patterns and fabrics, all in the same general flared cut, plus linen t-shirts or simple short-sleeved blouses and a few linen cardigans in neutral colors. I also have a linen blazer for serious days. Everything basically goes with everything else.

Otherwise, I have three simple black smart casual dresses for when I need to get dressed really really quickly.

My non-work wardrobe is more relaxed and varied.

PandoraP · 26/03/2021 15:18

Currently pyjamas and quickly put a nice top on for zoom callsGrin

Discovering that putting a necklace over any plain top looks perfectly presentable on Zoom changed my life. Grin
IllNeverLetGoJack · 26/03/2021 16:43

Ha! I definitely relate to not bothering. Good tip re necklace over black sweatshirt for zoom calls! I even have a black sweatshirt.

I suppose there's a fine line between a deliberate uniform for ease and being in a rut 🤔. But I'm sick of not knowing what to wear these days and would honestly rather just shove something on. Weather doesn't help as I can't predict how cold I might be!

@PrincessNutNuts, I thought that was a great idea when I read your post. Off to find necklaceGrin

ParkheadParadise · 26/03/2021 16:56

I'm usually in
Leggings/ Skinny Jeans
T-Shirt/ Long Cardigan/ Hoodie/ Scarves/jewellery
Heels/ Trainers
This is what I normally wear during the day for the school run /shopping. I haven't dressed up for a night out in a very long time😄
I did try my heels on recently and I couldn't walk in them. Dd(5) was holding my hand as I wobbled about the bedroom.🙈

GoWalkabout · 26/03/2021 17:04

Probably not what you are looking for but dh calls mine 'Woman at Rohan'. Usually smart walking trousers with shirt jumper or gilet combination. And smart walking shoes. My ideal vision would be along the lines of svelte active wear that looks good enough for a casual office or in the gym but my reality is just as comfy but much more staid!

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 26/03/2021 17:05

Jeans, jumpers, boots & bobble hat.
Literally live in a bobble hat as much of the year as I can get away with, i.e. September -March. People must think they are attached to my head or something.
I hate hate hate summer clothes and feel so self conscious in pretty much anything other than the above.
I need a jumper or sweater in my life permanently Grin
Sometimes I switch the jeans for leggings, especially since lockdown and being at home all the time. And sometimes swap boots for trainers.
I'll wear jeans well into the summer though when everyone else is in dresses or skirts.

I hate summer and hot weather.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 26/03/2021 17:13

I own many pairs of leggings and would wear them all the time if possible. I actually do a reasonable amount of exercise, so feel as if it isn't too weird wearing leggings a lot. I find if I'm already in running gear, I'm more likely to go for a run!!

I think summer is daunting too actually and I am much more comfortable in jeans and leggings! Maybe I need some denim shorts and cropped leggings and I'll be grand.

I am trying to find develop my style. When I was much thinner I used to wear alot of black dresses with statement jewellery. Then I fell into a habit of just wearing jeans and whatever jumper or shirt would cover my stomach.

But now I am moving into dresses at mid calf length with low shoes. I am calling it my Amish look, but actually it really suits me and I am getting alot of compliments. I feel feminie also.

I am a big fan of Jennifer L Scott who advocates a very truncated and minimal wardrobe. She is very slim (about 8 stone) and her clothes are not wholly to my taste (and she says herself people accuse her of being frumpy), but I think her overall aesthetic is low maintenance yet still feminine.

jenniferlscott.com/

She has a '10 item wardrobe' (it changes each season) and a nice mix of inexpensive clothes (from supermarkets) as well as expensive cashmere. Her approach works for me and I am trying to adopt it. It takes alot of the decision-making out of things for me yet I still look presentable and feminine (which ahs been really lacking in the past 12 years since DS1 was born and I collapsed into years of PND).

Namechange2790 · 26/03/2021 21:05

Currently Black jeggings with a variety of tank tops and fitted t shirts with either a chunky cardigan or jumper, and a pair of plain black toms shoes. In winter I’ll wear black Ugg’s and a blanket scarf, in summer it’s hush chino shorts and salt water sandals.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 26/03/2021 21:15

I'm basically goth. All my clothes are black (I do have the odd purple item). It's kind of a uniform because everything goes with everything else!

Toomuchleopard · 26/03/2021 21:22

In winter I nearly always wear skinnies in grey, black or indigo with flat ankle boots in either black, brown or grey and wool loose jumpers of which I have loads, with knee length wool or puffa coat. I have loads of all of these so I’m wearing different outfits every day but it’s all the same style.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/03/2021 21:31

I have different uniforms for the time of year. I’ve been working from home since this time last year, so my normal work clothes are sad in my cupboard.

Right now it’s fitted t-shirt (mainly Joanie or Monki), v-neck boxy cardigan (Arket/Other Stories) with balloon or barrel jeans (Whistles or Levi’s). In Summer I’ll shift to midi skirts with t-shirts, midi dresses, or culottes with tees. I am really hoping to be back in actual work vootgrs for autumn!

IllNeverLetGoJack · 26/03/2021 21:45

Thanks all. Very helpful to read your responses.

I have young dcs, and I find skirts and dresses a bit of a pain tbh, when I'm running around after them. I used to love a waft around in summertime in a floaty dress, but there is minimal opportunity for wafting with my current lifestyle! Think shorts might be more sensible for summer and it would be easy to swap jeans and leggings for shorts, without changing much on my top half. I'm on the hunt for a flattering pair now.

Tehmina23 · 27/03/2021 11:52

Unfortunately I'm quite overweight at present so I'm just wearing leggings, Adidas trainers, T-shirt's & jumpers with a puffa jacket or denim jacket...

It's a shame as I have lots of lovely clothes so I'm desperately trying to lose weight.

DK123 · 27/03/2021 12:07

Black skinny jeans or leggings
Long sleeve black top or black jumper
Leather jacket (black or sometimes burgundy)
Black suede bag with tassels or silver studs
Variety of silver jewellery eg long necklaces, bangles and chunky rings. Sometimes with chunky black or dark green gemstones.
Biker boots, DM boots or sometimes trainers
The colours I sometimes mix in are burgundy or very dark green.
I don't know why I ever buy anything else that does not fit this description!

IllNeverLetGoJack · 27/03/2021 13:02

Yes, I'm thinking, if I had a vague uniform, I would know only to buy from that list if things iyswim. Maybe not identical things, but similar.

I read an article where someone did this. She wore just pastel tops and off white jeans. Boots or shoes, depending on weather, jumper added in cold weather. Then skirts instead of the jeans in summer. It does sound easier when you're looking for clothes, so you know you only need x, y or z in whatever sort of colours you suit.
