Nice boots for fat calved Irises, please

Dear Style Section,

I don't usually come into this room, always imagined it to be furnished in cream and gilt armchairs with very fragrant assistants.

Please help me in my hour of need.

I want some knee high boots, pref. black or dark brown with a heel but not a spiky heel which I'll break off inthe first week.

Tried a few pairs on today but couldn't get the zips more than two thirds up my calves.

I'm not massively fat, I hasten to add, (size 12, 14 on a bad day), but gravity has apparently sucked all my blubber into the area just below my knees.

Budget £50 to £100.

Please lovely style gurus, has anyone seen any boots which would fit me???

If you want to spend a bit, then Duo are fab. But also try Evans for cheaper options - some of theirs are pretty good, and wide fitting.

(am not in the least fragrant, by the way)

(though not actually smelly either, you understand)

Oooh I'm liking those duo boots but they're a bit expensive...

Will check out Evans. That's a good idea, have never been to Evans but it makes sense that they'd have boots for the generously voluptious calf

My substantial calves have recently been wearing a pair of wide fit knee-high boots from Next - they're spiky heeled, but there is a pair in the directory/on the website that I WISH I'd seen in the shop, with chunkier heels. I thought I'd made a terrible mistake at first, and they were going to cut off the blood supply to my feet, but they stretched a bit with wear and are actually really comfy. I have Evans boots as well - their generous sizing extends into the actual shoe size it seems, they're a size 4 when I normally wear 5 or 6.

pull on work boot

I have these which despite the work boot title are very flattering ..

alarkaspree · 08/11/2007 18:44

How would you feel about stretchy ones? M&S have some that are a kind of suede-look, not elastic look. I thought they looked quite good when I tried them on, although I didn't buy them. They are pointy and kitten-heeled,

duo are expensive but fit so well (you measure your own calf) i have bought a pair this year (dark green suede - lovely) and wear them all the time. def worth the investment. good luck! i know how annoying it is!

Got some really comfortable ones from Clarks - called Mia West - knee length in black with low heels. The calf is adjustable - I have never been able to get long boots before due to chunky calfs and these are fab! So comfortable I walk up and down the hill to school in them!

bagpuss · 08/11/2007 19:02

Duo are fab. They now have a fitting room in Manchester too which is worth a look if you are near.

I got some gorgeous biker boots (copies of this season's Celine ones) in Peacocks . These fit my chunky size 14 calves easily, and are comfy at work where I dash all over London all day.

Well after dithering over some plainish, small heeled leather boots in a posh shop in Marlow (£125), I was in Asda and had a quick look and got some identical ones for £25!!! Leather!!! and I can do them up my fat calves!! Sorry for all the exclamation marks but I am soo chuffed!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
