The perfect lipstick - natural but better, more 'finished'

Apologies if this has been asked and answered a hundred times!

I'm a pale skinned red head (not a proper bright ginger but not strawberry blonde either). My lips are still quite full, despite being 48, and still quite dark.

I'm constantly searching for the perfect lippy that just enhances them and makes my face look 'finished'.

Trouble is I'm constantly getting the shade wrong! Usually too blue I think, as my teeth aren't a great white, they're a bit creamier and some lipsticks instantly make them look awful! Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk looked shite on me. I suit a deeper colour I think, I just can't find it!

Pleeeeaaase help! I've nailed a lovely bright orangey-red for proper dressed-up times (a trip to Aldi these days, rather than the pre-Covid hot nights out 😂) , I just really want an everyday lippy, preferably not matte but not high shine either. Fussy much??

@Maxellious

I was also going to recommend Mac spirit too. It's quite a browny-nude but I find it so flattering, I have quite dark coloured lips and suit warmer tones too.

If you need slightly pinker, Chanel mademoiselle is also lovely and a satin finish

I've got Mac Fresh Brew as a pinky brown nude. For a bit more pink I've got L'Oreal No Doubts.

MAC Hug Me is my perfect my-lips-but-better shade.

NomDePrune · 03/04/2021 02:13

Interested

Interested as I'm looking for a long- lasting nude lip colour. Have been happy with max factor lipfinity as it doesn't srain masks, but I'd like a summery nude/coral next time

Not much help for now but if and when we ever get back to normal try the Boots colour match. I found it very good for foundation and based on your foundation shade they have cards with recommendations for lipstick shades to suit. I have a couple I bought based on their recommendations and they were pretty good.

I’ve read that to get the perfect colour for your lips, look at the colour of your nips!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 03/04/2021 10:14

I'm a strawberry blonde aged 40 and my absolute go-to lipstick is Revolon Ultimate Suede in Runway. It stays on forever and is the right natural shade for my skin and hair tones.
I rarely see it in shops now but managed to get several on amazon

jannyapple · 03/04/2021 16:01

Vaseline tinted pink is fab , don't even need a mirror and it cost a quid
Love it Daffodil

LadyPeppermint · 03/04/2021 16:48

I have similar colouring and my holy grail is Mac Peach Blossom. It's not peach at all but a sheer ish soft nude colour. It's the definition of 'your lips but better'. Not blue toned as i also look bloody awful in pillow talk. Loads of my friends have now bought it too.

Aisforharlot · 03/04/2021 21:47

Sounds like you'd suit the Pat McGrath Flesh 3 gloss shade.

Silvergreen · 03/04/2021 22:02

Love Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk for a daytime lipstick.

Silvergreen · 03/04/2021 22:03

Oops should've read all your post 😂

Nacreous · 03/04/2021 22:07

Rimmel Number 8 is my favourite and I think from the looks of the bourgeois one you've suggested it might work for you too. (I wear inexpensive make up!)

247SylviaPlath · 03/04/2021 22:27

Mac powder kiss lipstick in sultry move is my holy grail of nude lipsticks...

Stratfordplace · 03/04/2021 22:33

Chanel Mademoiselle used to be lovely but then they changed it, it’s more of a gloss now and not much definition.

Sexnotgender · 03/04/2021 22:36

Urban decay comfort matte in criminal is my go to daily lipstick. Love it.

Marmaladegin · 03/04/2021 23:29

Urban decay naked. Can't live without it (I have similar colouring, OP)

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 03/04/2021 23:33

Coffeetableconundrum · 04/04/2021 00:37

Have you tried Medieval by Lipstick Queen? I love it... It looks bright red in the tube, but it’s super sheer and is very much ‘your lips but better’. They do a pink version too, I think, but Medieval is my go to.

OnTheSeaShore · 04/04/2021 00:54

Have you tried on colours virtually? I discovered this last week and it's been quite useful.

Mindgone · 04/04/2021 01:13

Bobbi Brown Sandwash Pink is just beautiful! I look like me, but better, and more confident Smile

WiganNorthWest · 04/04/2021 01:16

Mac velvet teddy. I’m a redhead

Allabouttheangles · 04/04/2021 01:22

Oh Fenty do fab sheer lipsticks. Really recommend them

Housewife2010 · 04/04/2021 06:01

OP
As you like orangey red, I'd recommend Revlon's Rich Girl Red. It's a sheer tomato red which is beautifully wearable and is a great low key red.

WrinklesShminkles · 04/04/2021 10:27

Glossier Generation G lipstick in Zip is an orange red, but transparent and matte. All the Glossier lipstick colours give a very natural look as a result of the transparency.
