How do I ditch the leggings and hoodie?

Over lockdown I've spent my whole time in this type of outfit (hopefully photo will attach). I have a 4 month old baby and what you see here is my maternity leggings and a hoodie from the men's department of Primark...
I feel like I've lost my way entirely. I don't want jeans particularly, because I'm in the house a lot. I used to wear a lot of dresses but they're also not practical for playing with the baby, plus I'm breastfeeding so access is difficult. What can I wear to still be comfortable but less of a mess?

How do I ditch the leggings and hoodie?

OP! I have just started a really similar thread

A blouse and smarter trousers but with some stretch so they're still comfortable? A jumper dress with better quality leggings? Shirt-dress with tights?

LBB2020 · 20/03/2021 18:40

I’m in the same boat except my baby is 6 months 🤦🏻‍♀️

ElderMillennial · 20/03/2021 18:43

If you're wearing maternity leggings, do you have maternity jeans you can still wear! I find mine really comfy and look smarter than leggings.

You can wear a simple t shirt or jumper or sweatshirt without it being a hoodie.

ElderMillennial · 20/03/2021 18:44

Also I don't think it's just people who have just had babies who are dressing super casual during lockdown

Blondie107 · 20/03/2021 18:54

How about sticking with leggings and hoodie but choosing some brighter colours? Patterned leggings look so cool and you can get a bright coloured hoodie too

baileysisforme · 20/03/2021 18:57

Leather look type leggings will look a bit more dressed up and also they are wipeable for baby vom!
You could still wear hoodies but maybe slightly smarter ones and then add a black blazer or an over sized denim jacket.

I'm in the same boat except my baby is 10 years old Grin
MoreMorelos · 20/03/2021 19:04

Yeah my baby is 12.........

LBB2020 · 20/03/2021 19:05

@toolazytothinkofausername Grin you win!

Mygardenisnotperfect · 20/03/2021 19:05

And mine is nearly 14 😂

Branleuse · 20/03/2021 19:06

long jumper and leggings, with nice boots

Mygardenisnotperfect · 20/03/2021 19:10

Anyway OP you look really young and you have a lovely figure under there so this is a completely fixable issue! What about booking a session with a personal shopper at a department store when they are open again? I always think Boden has lovely dresses, I know people sneer at them on here sometimes and say they are frumpy looking but I honestly don’t think so and they are super comfy and practical!

I think you’re too young and slim for me to be able to give you any useful tips on how to dress (like I still think leggings look awful but I’m aware that’s what the young people are wearing these days), plus like I said I kind of lost my way after having a baby having previously been really confident about fashion, and never really found my way out again.

Mygardenisnotperfect · 20/03/2021 19:12

And I will say that loads of high street stores do special breastfeeding tops and dresses these days. I’d have a look at your favourite pre baby high street labels. When the shops open again the women who work in retail will be only too happy to assist you if you ask! It’s literally their job to find stuff that looks good on you so you want to buy it, they’re the experts so I’d ask them!

NeurologicallySpeaking · 20/03/2021 19:17

There's a website called can I breastfeed in it I think which reviews 'normal' clothes with good feeding access. I wear dresses to play with my baby. Just not skin tight ones! If you fancy leggings maybe some nice ones like Sweaty Betty or Tikiboo

Biribift · 20/03/2021 20:23

Thank you for all the tips (and for the compliment @Mygardenisnotperfect Blush )
I have this weird block when it comes to jumpers, I've decided they make me look very boxy (but for some reason I don't think that about hoodies) I think it may be because jumpers are shorter, and I have a relatively small waist and wide hips, they just stop at the wrong part of me, whereas hoodies are longer.
Leather look leggings are a good shout, as is shirt dresses (I'll have to find my iron!)

I had my baby 10 years ago and don't look as put together as you do in lockdown OP!

jelly79 · 20/03/2021 20:56

I think this is the majority of us OP!

I've just ordered some different outfits online to have a play around with some ideas at hone

You look great x

sabrinathemiddleagewitch · 20/03/2021 21:04

H&M have lots of great casual things.

Get a few new pairs of leggings, some flared/ wide leg knitted joggers, and some supportive gym leggings all for lounging around the house.

Some nice trainers you like and that are a bit more stylish, plain white maybe?

Top half, chunky cardigans are fashionable at the moment, with a thick vest under.

Thin knit jumpers, oversized to cover bum, looks more out together than hoodies.

Try and stick to maybe three colours, so everything matches. If your cool toned, grey blue and black. If your warm toned, cream, beige, and navy.

They also do great "slim mom jeans" in lots of colours that are comfortable compared to skinnies.

You can still be comfy and play with your daughter but wear more put together lounge wear!

Sugarcube84 · 20/03/2021 21:13

When breastfeeding I wore stuff like this with leggings or tights

Justanotherdragact · 20/03/2021 21:29

Definitely shirt dresses with leggings. Easy to whack your boobs out of and comfy to wear inside and you don’t feel slobby going out in that outfit either! I’m in the same boat. Hard isn’t it Confused

RowanAlong · 20/03/2021 21:30

I’d just go with wrap dresses over leggings. If they’ll get ruined with the baby they needn’t be expensive ones! Anything wrap front in jersey is good as it’s stretchy for getting boob out for feeding!

my baby is 3 years old and I'm still very much in love with my leggings
LBB2020 · 20/03/2021 21:56

@NoMoreZigAndSharko Grin I have a 3 year old too and had just got out my beloved leggings and back into proper clothes then lockdown started and I had DC2 and I am now firmly back in the leggings Grin

Biribift · 21/03/2021 10:51

I've had a good look online and ordered some nicer (non maternity!) leggings and some long shirts/dresses to go over the top! I'm still far too attached to my hoodies, however hopefully some nicer weather will put an end to that!! I'm useless with pairing things, I generally order everything in black and grey because at least I know they'll all go. I think I need to be a bit more adventurous!
