Has, anyone bought from these sites recently?

What are the sizes like compared to before they were bought by boohoo?

Is quality as good as before?

Not many details on site, for example how long would a midi skirt be? Could petite get away with wearing one as a maxi?

I work for them.

Everything is the same as before, same manufacturers and suppliers, so nothing has changed in terms of quality you are used to (or lack of quality depending on which brand under Boohoo’s umbrella you buy Grin ).

However, by ‘quality’, bear in mind much of what you’re buying online isn’t brand new, it’s more often than not been worn and returned several times.

Our returns processors are on great pay rates but only because the job is so mindblowingly boring they can’t recruit unless there’s a pay incentive.

What this means, is that returns aren’t checked properly, and you’ll be wearing leotards (‘bodysuit’) generally worn without underwear, that’s already been worn, tight leggings , pyjamas, party frocks, bikinis, .... all worn.

Because of the pay later credit offered across the cheaper brands, people take advantage and buy tons of stuff, wear it on holiday, then return 9 out of 10 items several weeks later. ALL our returns from the cheap brands are like this.

Refunds are issued regardless of damage, no damage, no reason, whatever.

Sometimes a returns processor will do their job properly and sniff the armpits, check the crotch for goo, notice smoke or deodorant perfume smells, and on the few occasions I did Returns I did this, but once I opened packages with unmentionables in (clearly placed deliberately in the parcel by customers unhappy with their customer services experience so wanted to take it out on the Returns staff Shock ), after that I refused this task.

As for sizing, it isn’t generic across items and brands so hard to say.

You could try emailing customer services directly at the warehouse where the item is stocked (one of several nationwide with Boohoo), and if a member of staff has time, usually from HR (ask for the intern, give’s them something useful to do Grin ) they can nip down with a tape measure and measure the item length. It’s not that hard, they just track it down on the shelf.

So as for sizing, ....Easier to just try it all before you (don’t) buy it all !

Well that’s properly put me off online shopping…

Userengage · 26/01/2022 20:53

Eye opener.

Warehouser1 · 26/01/2022 20:56

@Blankspace4 Grim, isn’t it. I had no idea until I worked here this is what ‘Returns’ really meant. I know we all try stuff on in store, but this is different, people are buying to wear on holiday or for special occasions, then return it.

Generally the more expensive boohoo brands like Karen Millen (which seems to be slowly morphing into Lydia Millen instead judging by the packaging because of the current ‘Karen’ meme connotations) and Coast, the more genuine a return (ie manufacture damage), but also the odd wedding dress with wine stains !

It’s the cheap brands which are returned obviously damage/worn.

Blankspace4 · 26/01/2022 20:58

Surely they’ve got to start changing policies and refusing to refund people who return goods quite obviously worn?

Warehouser1 · 26/01/2022 21:03

@Blankspace4 no, when we open a returned package and run it through the system, we are just clicking ‘returned / damaged’ or ‘returned/customer gave no reason’. Either way, everyone is refunded regardless. It’s the no quibble customer satisfaction thing that is common with most online fashion retail.

Blankspace4 · 26/01/2022 21:10

Well I avoided boohoo anyway because of the way they treat their supply chain but this confirms another reason to avoid!

Warehouser1 · 26/01/2022 21:17

@Blankspace4 yes they’ve been up for Modern Slavery issues at some of their UK manufacturing suppliers. No company this big succeeds because of integrity.

Littlemiss74 · 26/01/2022 23:16

Wow, that’s an eyeopener for sure! I have often wondered when I’ve bought online how many people may have tried on before!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 26/01/2022 23:29

I had an inkling that returns policies were like this- i.e. I just can't imagine someone picking on the fact an item of clothing is crumpled as a reasom not to accept the return. Obvious marks yes, or where the label under the shoe has come off or is scuffed. And therefore it stands to reason some people will abuse this. Most of us remember taking things into shops and having them inspected so this has sort of stuck or we are just rule followers and scared of not getting our money back! I guess since shops stopped doing store cards (remember having a Topshop or Warehouse card anyone?) and Klarna stepped in (which surely is a bubble that is going to burst) it meant its even easier to buy now pay later.

Does anyone know why stores stopped doing store cards?

Classica · 26/01/2022 23:30

Fascinating!

When I return an item of clothing I make sure I don't crinkle the price tag, fold it up as I received it, slide it back into the bag. Basically do my best to ensure it's as pristine as it was 5 mins earlier when I tried it on. Meanwhile Sophie from Swindon is wearing hers multiple times in Marbs before getting her refund.

Echobelly · 26/01/2022 23:34

I knew about stuff getting returned but I heard the problem was it then gets chucked in landfill and not used again rather than it was sent out again - I'd heard no one could be arsed with the repackaging!
