Does anyone else want to 'waft about' in a beautiful kaftan?

I love the idea of kimono style kaftans or similar for the summer (if we ever get one!) I'm losing my lockdown excess slowly and I'm large of nork so I don't want to look like a sack of spuds.

More elegant and stylish, even if it's only in my own garden. Anyone else?

I've looked at one hundred stars they have lovely ones.

Not sure where else to look!

I have a mental image of me wafting in a kaftan too. Wolf and Badger have some, but they are very expensive. I actually got mine from Wish, as I’m a cheapskate Grin

wizzywig · 20/03/2021 10:45

Like what's her name in the Serpent? If I were that gorgeous, I'd be wafting 24 hours a day

Ninkanink · 20/03/2021 10:46

Yes!

I have a couple of 100 Stars dressing gowns. They’re pretty but very delicate.

Toast might have something.

Gudrun Sjödén is a good bet as well.

MrsKingfisher · 20/03/2021 10:54

I have a beautiful kimono dressing gown from Morocco but it's so delicate and when I'm wafting past a door I will inevitably catch the sleeve on the handle.

Need something flattering and hard wearing it seems!

Monsoon have some kimono type wraps . Was looking at those this morning but I fear the ‘ vision ‘ of ‘ wafting ‘ is more romantic than the reality
But so so fed up with leisure wear , if I never see another sweatshirt again it will be too soon

thebabessavedme · 20/03/2021 10:54

I have seen some rather nice silk ones on etsy, about £100 but look very wafty and cool.

Yes! Loungewear was such a novelty then came the lack of bra so now I'm having to return to normal everything feels tight and I hate wearing a bra! Losing the lbs slowly I'm a size 14 but want to shave off 2 stone before summer.

I have visions of me wearing a lovely kimono sipping a gin & tonic and feeling happy with what's underneath. Right now I feel like Jabba the Hutt!

Nothing beats the Aussie designer Camilla Franks for wafty kaftans. 100% silk, so cool and swishy. I wish she did some more neutral palettes (they can be a bit loud of pattern). Eye-wateringly expensive, but I wait stealthily on eBay for bargains. I have three, and wear them non stop in warm weather. I even wash them on delicate cycle or handwash with no real issues. They are so versatile, and make me feel like a goddess.

Their website gives you great styling tips- basically different ways to tie them to give various looks. Sizing is generous and they come out with 4-5 new designs each year. They also do great silk harem pants, and hi-lo tops.

LunaHeather · 20/03/2021 11:25

Yes but I would look like a wandering square.

MapleMay11 · 20/03/2021 11:52

Another vote for Camilla - a fantastic range of floaty pieces. I would check the website first to see the whole range. I've purchased directly from there and shopping and returns are excellent.

mrssmiling · 20/03/2021 12:34

Another vote for Monsoon, and Gudrun Sjödén is a great suggestion.
Aspiga and Dilli Grey have lovely kaftans/long dresses, and it’s worth keeping an eye on the TK Maxx website - I found a beautiful long cotton printed tunic there last year. Kit and Kaboodal might be worth a look too...floaty Lagenlook clothes.

MrsKingfisher · 20/03/2021 16:33

Love the Camilla Franks designs but yes they're very loud!

I have a wardrobe full of kaftans from all over the world, for all weathers including winter wear. If you want to waft about, waft about. There is a reason why so many countries have versions of them - they are infinitely comfortable. What anyone else thinks is irrelevant.

ClearMountain · 20/03/2021 17:14

Amanda Wakeley and Raishma both do fabulous kaftans. Way out of my price range unfortunately! Monsoon did kaftans once upon a time but I haven’t seen any lately, try EBay. Silk Fred has quite a few in the £20-120 range, sadly the cheaper ones are a bit jazzy.

crispinglovershighkick · 20/03/2021 19:00

I have this dress in a few colours, it's lovely and wafty and comfy in all but the hottest and coldest weather. If it's a bit chilly out I put some silk long johns underneath Smile

LunaHeather · 22/03/2021 22:31

I thought I'd revive this as I have been looking and think I might have seen some styles that won't make me look like a drifting square Grin

However, i'm an urban dweller and much as I like the idea of a light kimono jacket in the summer, the lovely designs I can see mostly look wrong for the urbs? Does this make sense?

I haven't really seen anyone wearing them in bars and restaurants but that might just be me and the fact I'm rather unobservant!

On one hand a floaty kimono would be great with jeans but does anyone do this or will I look odd? Interested in thoughts. Thanks.

LunaHeather · 22/03/2021 22:40

Example here

Re boots etc

Not a look I've seen but perhaps I'm not going to the kinds of places you'd see them?

COUNT ME IN.

LunaHeather · 23/03/2021 00:00

@UturnUna

COUNT ME IN.
Some of the styles I'm seeing would fit two people Grin

I may just be hopelessly out of touch. Really like to try the look though.

mizzles · 23/03/2021 00:43

A lovely local designer called Om Baby has branched out into adult clothes and does lovely floaty dresses and jumpsuits - I think she is planning to have robes this year too. Worth checking out - I have a jumpsuit and absolutely love hanging out in it.

Highforareason · 23/03/2021 08:16

I love to waft!

I have lots of 2nd hand kimonos I bought in Japan for silly money, as in inexpensive, long and short in silk and silk crepe and cotton ones (they all have different names for each style).

Have loads from the overseas countries I have lived in, as mentioned earlier each hot/humid country has its on variation, again silk, cotton and so on.

I have had a couple from 100 stars, first one is ruined as the dye ran all over the rest of the fabric (hand wash), 2nd one is nice (a gift) knee length but collar to collar with no belt. I sent one of the full pop over kimonos back as it was so light and see through and the shape was, well all out of shape, up one side not equal at the other. think they are expensive for what they are.

Have a look on ebay for any Anoki clothes, its an Indian brand (think they also do clothes for East) they have some lovely wafting clothing

Highforareason · 23/03/2021 08:19

So miss spelled that, should be Anokhi

Hop27 · 23/03/2021 08:21

Another vote for Camilla ....

Laska2Meryls · 23/03/2021 08:29

Ah , I see that Verry Kerry are all kimonos atm.. ( but still very beautiful ones ). They did used to do kaftans
