Boob or bust

carolinesbaby · 17/03/2021 21:53

So I'm a fairly standard size 14-16 top. Been wearing a 36DD. Seems ok.
Just on impulse measured myself with the boob or bust method. Their calculator says.....
32HH.
What?!
That can't be right, can it?!

I think I have small to medium boobs and I'm an E cup. I always wonder how some ranges think they cater for anyone when they stop at DD and everything beyond is considered 'outsize'. I guess they rely on us all wearing the wrong size.

Lamentations · 18/03/2021 20:20

I'm looking at you Elle Macpherson/Heidi Klum intimates...

2andahalfpints · 18/03/2021 20:59

Boob or bust works for me, I recommend Bravissimo too, brastop does the bigger sizes also

carolinesbaby · 18/03/2021 21:12

I'm going to have to wait until I can go and try on in store. Can't afford to buy lots of sizes at £25+ each!

Look, the point about the boob or bust measuring is that IT'S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SYSTEM.

What do you mean? No it isn't. If it recommends say, 30FF bra then it's a bra labelled as 30FF in the UK sizing they mean, they are not talking about French/Spanish/Euro sizing.

lindyloo57 · 18/03/2021 22:10

Doesn't work for me, 31 under 38 full part , I normally wear a 34 dd, had a new bra on today 32 f its so tight I can only wear it for half a day. Someone said on here try the bra on back to front to check the band size, but its so tight, so I know its not the cup what is making it feel tight.

dementedpixie · 18/03/2021 22:15

Try the sister size then (34E). It is a guide and depends how much extra padding you have. I measure 37 but am squidgy so I can wear a 36 back.

Also some bra brands are a tighter fit even if they say they are the same size.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/03/2021 06:13

of course one obvious problem is that a well fitting bra needs to be tight. If you have been wearing one 2 sizes too big that just lays there, a correct fit will feel a lot tighter.
Obviously some brands are tighter than others too, just like clothes. But I measure 30 inches and can comfortably wear most size 30 bras - so it does sound odd if someone else measuring the same claims they can't even fasten the bra.

lightlypoached · 19/03/2021 06:34

I just remeasured myself and ordered new bras (from Freya, thanks to recommendations on here)

Went from 32D to 30F !! That was a shock. Didn't really believe it. Ordered new bras and bikinis (on sale! ) and they looked HUGE when they arrived.

Am keeping 2 bikinis and 1 bra. A couple of the bras didn't fit well but I think they vary by style ?

PlayItCool · 19/03/2021 07:23

I've measured myself using BoB and was given 28G! I'm currently wearing a 30E but it's definitely a bit small in the cup. I checked on Bravissimo and decided to try 28FF and 28F as I really didn't think a G was correct. I'm a size 10.

I got lots of fat squished up around my underarms with the 28F and a bit of wrinkling at the bottom with 28FF. Does this mean the cup is too small and I should have followed the instructions to try a G in the first place ?

dementedpixie · 19/03/2021 07:29

Do you scoop the flesh from under your arms into the cup?

28F has the same cup volume as your 30E so if 30E is too small then 28F will also be too small. 28FF is 1 cup size bigger than your 30E, 28G is 2 cup sizes bigger

Where does the centrel gore sit on the 28FF? Is it against your ribs between your breasts?

KatharinaRosalie · 19/03/2021 08:26

Bottom wrinkling is usually fit issue, can happen also with correct size if the shape does not suit you.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/03/2021 08:28

Oh and I always recommend with starting rather with a bigger cup than smaller. It's easy to see if the cup is too big and you can just work down from there. It's also easy to squeeze yourself into a cup a couple of sizes too small, if you have never had a properly fitting bra. Yes, underarm fat is often a sign that the cup is small.

CombatBarbie · 19/03/2021 08:30

I was wearing 34dd and it sized me at 32ff.... Took a bit of getting used too going down a band but now it's great.

Maxellious · 19/03/2021 13:22

Lots of good advice here, but cup shape also plays a big part. Eg, I struggle to wear plunge bras, because my boobs are quite full in the side close to the centre of my chest. Even wearing by the right size, I can fall out between the cups when j bend over if they are cut too low / wide. A balcony bra is a much better shape for me.

MeadowHay · 19/03/2021 14:24

Yes shape very important for a good fit. Mine are bottom heavy so I can only really wear plunge bras for a perfect fit.

someonelockthefridgealready · 19/03/2021 14:32

I tried it and order the size recommended and two sister sizes and they all rubbed horribly under my arms within about 30 mins. I measure about three times to make sure too. No idea why it didn't work for me.

Cluckycluck · 19/03/2021 16:48

Boob or Bust worked perfectly for me. I went from a 32D to a 28G. After doing BoB I went to to Bravissimo and they took one look and came back with a 28G. Felt a little tight at first but a couple of days later I was used to it.

I think BoB only work if you have the right shape boobs.

Elsabet · 19/03/2021 17:34

I did the BoB after seeing a post here a few weeks back. I am a 14 was wearing 34E and Bob is 32HH. I have ordered 6 bras in and around that size, some were ridiculously too big and the ones that were ok in the cup the wires stretched too much around under my arm towards my back. After googling wires stretching it seems than the band is too small for me so going to try some sister sizes now.

PlayItCool · 19/03/2021 17:53

Thanks for the replies. I did the back scoop thing with the 28FF and that seems to fit nicely now. I hadn't realised the cups on 30E and 28F would be the same size!

Also did the scoop thing on my 30E and it became very obviously too small. So I might try a 28G just to see.

To think I used to wear a 32B (thanks M&S!)

lindyloo57 · 19/03/2021 18:26

I used to be a bra fitter, in the days when you added 4 inches, the thing is I found 2 inches worked better, and larger the lady the less you add, for instance anyone forty or more you didn't add any inches, so the skinnier the person you would add around 2 inches, as others have said all brands fitted differently some customers would buy 3 or 4 bras all from different brands and different sizes.

Purpleblondelady · 20/03/2021 00:40

I nearly asked about BoB last week. I've always worn a 36B and I find them comfortable. I always thought that M&S bras were totally wrong for my boobs, but I saw some bras that I really liked about 18 months ago, when I was measured she told me I was a 34C but I ended up having to buy a 34D (which I couldn't believe) in one if styles because the C didn't fit. I did BoB a few days ago and measured as being a 32F, I've always thought myself as being small breasted so I will be utterly shocked if a 32F would fit me. I bet I would look like I have satsumas trying to be oranges. I have ordered a 34E from Gossard, because they didn't have 32F in the bra that I wanted.

QueenPaw · 20/03/2021 01:12

You have to experiment with styles too. I wear a size 16-18 (for boobs I need to size up!) and am a 34 back
Panache used to fit me well but now feel like they're trying to stab me in the middle. Curvy Kate just don't fit, neither do Freya. I bought an elomi Matilda and it's the best fitting bra I've ever owned. Found that other plunge bras from elomi work on me too, but their full cup styles don't

M&S measure me as a 40H, I'm a 34K. Yes I've got boobs but most people would probably look and go "oh she's a DD or something"
Pic attached, they really don't look that big until I take my top off Grin

Boob or bust
lindyloo57 · 20/03/2021 10:06

Like to add the black coloured bra's came up tighter, I think I remember a rep telling us,its to do with the dye, I find the same with some jeans in black can come up tighter.

Purpleblondelady · 20/03/2021 12:06

That's interesting about black dyes, but surely fabric is dyed before it's made into the garment and so it would cut accordingly?

My 34E arrived today (BoB measurement 32F) it looked huge when I first saw it! I'd say that it's a bit too big on the cup at the top, but I'm going to keep it because I don't think it's far off. I only tried it on, adjusted a bit and now I'm back in the 34D M&S bra that I was already wearing. I don't think either 34s feel especially tight (bearing in mind that I worn a 36 for years) so should i go for a 32D next time? I certainly don't think I'll be going back to a 36B!
