I don’t think I can go back to wearing underwired bras

...But I am too vain not to want the padding and uplift. I have really small boobs (they never developed properly at puberty - I’m saying this to make clear they really are disproportionately small for my build) and I look really bottom-heavy without a decent bra.

But working from home for the last however many months, I have got out of the habit and now when I wear one they’re really uncomfortable.

The only ones I can wear are deep plunge ones, which again is a function of the lack of development and weird boob shape (anything like a balcony bra just digs into my breastbone).

I don’t think a bralette or shelf bra would work because they don’t really give any shape, do they? I find sports bras comfortable to wear but they smoosh my small boobs down even further, which I really don’t need.

I’ve seen those Facebook ads for stretchy bras that are more like crop tops, and they do look comfy, but all the women in them seem to have big boobs with a naturally good shape. And don’t those kind of things just stretch out and lose their elasticity really quickly?

What kind of bras do I need, please?

I just wear non underwire tshirt bras from M&S, so they have a bit of padding but are comfy.

Don't worry about your look, seriously.
Women we come in all shapes and sizes.

Take this as an opportunity to go for comfort over image, maybe even go bra-less seeing as you're lucky enough to be able to! No one will care.

It’s all about the sloggi zero feel bralette. I’m also small breasted and there is great padding which gives good shape. I’ve lived in nothing but these for the past year.

Take a look at Molke - they have revolutionised bra-wearing for me!

shinynewapple21 · 14/03/2021 22:27

I have bought bras which are similar to the stretchy over head bra's you have seen in that they are padded and with a soft stretchy band underneath but they fasten at the back (so adjustable) and have normal bra straps .

The Asda ones come in S/M/L sizing but the Peacocks ones had proper bra sizing .

@Loftyloft, great lead on the Sloggis, thank you.

@NickMyLipple, I want to like Molke but I just don’t think the lack of padding is for me.

I’ve been wearing these from Uniqlo:
www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-beauty-light-wireless-bra-432849.html

They’re non wired with moulded cups so they have a nice shape. Obviously not as much lift as padded wired bras but very comfortable.

BUT beware that Uniqlo have changed their returns policy recently so you can’t return bras because they count as underwear.

I have v small boobs and live in bralettes, couldn't tell you the last time I wore an underwired bra! I bought this recently which has a tiny bit of padding, boobs look great! Gives them a little lift which surprised me. www.asos.com/les-girls-les-boys/les-girls-les-boys-ultimate-comfort-cotton-logo-lingerie-set-in-black/grp/32573?colourwayid=60191880#21734653&SearchQuery=les%20girls%20les%20boys

Oysho is my go to.

M&S do a nice lace bralette for less than a tenner. I wear them everyday!

tofuschnitzel · 15/03/2021 16:14

I like these from George at Asda-

direct.asda.com/george/women/lingerie/bras/lace-trim-comfort-bras-2-pack/GEM789325,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M18G2C1

They give a really nice shape and I feel supported. You can remove the padded cup if you wish, depending on what you prefer. Due to chronic pain, I have switched to wearing wireless bras. They are so much more comfortable and I wish I had made the switch earlier.

JeremyIronsBenFolds · 15/03/2021 16:22

I'm like you OP - v small boobs and wear a bra mainly for shape, and again only a plunge style! Those Molke bra would make me look like an ironing board. I can highly recommend the Uniqlo bras linked above, they give a good shape though are a bit rigid as they are moulded rather than padded.

The best bras I have oddly enough I bought in Costco! They're padded and wire free with a back fastener, are really comfy and give a good shape. Unfortunately they only have them in there occasionally - they're an American brand called Carole Hochman (probably a Costco own brand) and come in a box of two, called comfort bras I think.

I know what you mean. I haven't worn underwired for 4 years since having my kids and breastfeeding. Now I've stopped bf, I'm still wearing nursing bras but brought a beautiful non-wired padded bra from TU at the weekend. I've checked the website and it's out of stock and won't allow me to copy a link but it's called 'Black Seamless Stretch Comfort Plunge Bra'. There were plenty in my local store. I brought a XS as I'm a size 8 and it's a perfect fit!
