How few clothes do you reckon you could get by with? And what clothes would you need to hang on to?

Obviously not at the moment! I appreciate many people are (like me) living in comfies.

I'm evaluating what I have in my wardrobe and thinking, could I do with an awful lot less?

Curious what other people think.

I like to have plenty in my work wardrobe so if I’m too tired to have the washing/ ironing up to date, I still have something for the morning.

I have (doing this from memory as I am too lazy to go upstairs)
5 dresses I really like
2 that are a bit short but would do in a pinch
4 skirts
2 pairs of trousers I really like
2 pairs of trousers that are a bit tight but will do in an emergency
4 tops I really like
4 tops I’m not really in love with but will do

I think I am the wrong person for your thread!

Oh, just re read your op. That is my work wardrobe. It doesn’t include my going out clothes.

I also think I have many many more tops for work than I previously stated. And I didn’t mention my work cardies.

In normal times I like 10 days worth of work clothes. I can't remember going out clothes. Grin The biggest categories in my wardrobe were always fitness and outdoorsy stuff.

Yeah, I'm just thinking about minimalist wardrobes and I think it's really hard if you work in an office and / or go out a lot 🤔. But maybe it's possible.

Maybe you could get by with a few pairs of work trousers/skirts a few tops and jackets and a few dresses and jeans. My problem is being cold. If my warmest jumper was in the wash and I didn't have a back up, I'd be cold.

I love the idea of a smaller wardrobe though.

I think I like clothes too much, together with my can’t be arsed attitude to having washing up to date, to be minimalist.

I have 6 dresses for work (work 4 days a week) in winter I layer them up underneath with tights and thermal vests and boots and in summer I wear them with peep toe shoes or slingbacks

I can't be bothered going out anymore but if I did I would endless amounts of clothes because I love 'going out out' clothes so I'm no use to you on that side

1 black trouser suit. 1 pair dark jeans. 1 white jacket. 1 grey/black/white patterned dress ( sleeveless); 1 vest top;1 long sleeved cotton top;1 fine knit sweater;1 white shirt;1 tote bag;1 small cross bag;1 set glitzy/bling jewellery;1 set smart jewellery;1 set casual jewellery;1 pair smart shoes with heels;1 pair boots you can walk in;1 smart raincoat;3 sets underwear;2 sets nightwear;1 set lounging around wear;pair of flip flops;1 bandana scarf;1 long scarf;1 hat;1 pair of gloves;1 pair trainers;1 swimsuit. That lot will take you anywhere and is around 40 items. I used black and white to illustrate mix and match. I know it works because I've used it for work travel a lot. Only thing that's a bit tricky is weddings if you've gone for black and white. That's what suits my work and style. Separates and trousers are much more versatile than dresses and skirts. They also need far fewer shoes ! Try and work out what 40 items would take you anywhere. Work up from that basic capsule adding in the bits you really need and am going to get good use out of. I would think very carefully about extending above 160 items as it's easy to wind up with out of date items you can't bear to part with as they haven't had much wear. If you're editing a large collection, I suggest you toss anything that doesn't fit now; anything that doesn't rate a nine out of ten when you wear it;and anything that doesn't go with at least three other things in your wardrobe. If you must keep souvenir items, limit them to what you can get in a suitcase. If you have big collections of anything, remember that no one needs more than ten of anything.

I have a 'uniform' of smart trousers and smart tops of the same cut but different collars and colours.
I could get away with 2 trousers and 5 tops but have quite a few more.
