Pashminas...are they old hat? Can I wear one with a suit? Help please!

Brother's wedding is in 3 weeks. Have given up trying to find anything pretty, having tried on every single outfit in every single shop in the North-West and am resigned to wearing my trouser suit. Have bought a sparkly top to go with it and some nice jewels.

So...it's a civil ceremony so I shouldn't be outdoors much (if at all) but my coat is not really very dressed up (it's last year's Boden big button one - grey) so I was contemplating a pashmina. My suit is black (just don't tell me black's not OK for a wedding or I'll scream) so I was thinking maybe a deep red pashmina?

Is this completely not done? Will I look ridiculous? I hate weddings.

What collur is the sparkly top and what colour shoes?

Pashmaina over a suit jacket not a good look imo.

Sounds like a lovely idea.

I wore Black to my sisters wedding teams with hot pink so I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Could you get a sparkly pashmina to go with your sparkly top? Probably loads of them around at this time of year.

Go and have a great time.

I'm afraid the top's black too - it's black sequins, with a satin ribbon belt. And the shoes sort of match - black beaded slingbacks. Jewellery's red

I kind of thought that myself - pashmina not good with a suit jacket...

Thanks, starry - I'm sure I'll have a great time once I'm there...I'm just at the pre-wedding fretting about my outfit stage (still!)

Well its not a great look, but if you use i smore like a scarf and less like a pashiman it ok.

Don't think the colours will work, with all the black you would need to be very brave with the colour of your pashmina.

What about leaving the jacket off? Teaming with something else?

DrNortherner · 07/11/2007 12:13

OK, civil ceremony so suit OK in black I think.

If you are also wearing back shoes and top you need to accessorise with colours. Beads/bangles/handbag and possibly a funky flower type brooch thing pinned on your jacket?

marthaboo · 07/11/2007 14:23

I have bought a red necklace - twinkly, faceted beads and a matching bracelet. And I've seen a handbag that I like - black, but with lots of different colours in it too (also a bit twinkly). I'll look for a brooch - that's a good idea.

But it's no to the pashmina, isn't it?

I have a dark red velvet scarf...

moo darling, at my nephew's wedding the women were in black almost to a man (if you'll pardon the expression) apart from the pg niece who wore a white coat and a multi-colkoured silky dress and red shoes. Oh, and the bride

Nowt wrong wi' black, chuck!

Nbg · 07/11/2007 14:31

I'd deffo say no to a pashmina over a suit jacket.
Dress yes, sleeveless top yes.

How about getting a cape or something if you think you'll really need it.

marthaboo · 07/11/2007 14:35

Thanks, Wendy

Nbg, I think I'll just run from the car to the venue if it's really cold. Then drink a lot of champagne
