I'm only 5'2

Something like this?: www.vivienofholloway.com/women-c70/dresses-c10/grace-ivory-duchess-dress-p403

What do you usually wear that is flattering and you feel confident in? Would you post a picture?

Finding the shape that flatters you is key.

Honestly? Depending on when the wedding is I would still go to a bridal store when they reopen. With that budget you could probably get something off the rack. Many of the bridal stores close to me are advertising stock and pre booking appointments for when they can reopen and their plan is to sell off the rack as they know there's going to be lots of brides in your situation and they will have stock to shift. I don't think you have anything to lose really. That way you can try stuff on in stores etc.

Can you buy wedding dresses in all sizes off the rack? My local one only stocks one sample size, which then has to be ordered?

@PresentingPercy

If you have a tummy, having fabric falling from the waist can help cover that. Dresses that skim over the tummy usually accentuate it. I think these styles are worth a look. 10% off for new customers too.
@PresentingPercy you have really lovely taste.
waltzingparrot · 13/03/2021 19:14

Would you hire?

You could go and try on loads of styles and be sure you can have it in time.

Bibboobbrides · 13/03/2021 19:26

This is mine, sorry about bad pics. I’m 5”2 BIG boobs, probably a GG here, I have a horrid beer & food tummy all my life, kids have now added to that haha. I’d lost a bit of weight in time for the big day so was maybe a 14 at the time but it tied at the back so would have been equally comfortable if I was bigger too. I could never go strapless, I just wore it with one of my huge bras underneath. I was 37 at the time.

I had it made to order on a Chinese bridal website. I can’t remember the price, I think £150-200. The only adjustments I had made were the shoulders as they were a little big for me, but that happens with most of my clothes.

It’s hard as you can’t try dresses on for style, but there is a lot to be said for a proper wedding dress, they can hide a multitude of sins, the heavy weight of the material tends to hide things. I tried flimsy, floaty dresses, and dresses I thought I’d love but everything in my head looked awful. Then I saw this and thought that will do and ordered it😆 🤞

Very laid back garden wedding, I changed straight into flip flops after the ceremony, which I’m wearing in the pics.

@IrisW
Thank you so much for the compliment. Nicest thing anyone has said to me on MN.

Keepyourdistance000 · 13/03/2021 19:54

Scarlett & Jo worth a look, or Lady V.

Sweetandawfulsour · 13/03/2021 20:09

What style dress do you normally head for? Would a jumpsuit or wide leg trouser suit be more your thaaang?
My sisters a similar size and shape by the sound of it and settled on a dress similar to this style. I’d personally steer clear of any heavy bulky white materials
I am hourglass also!

I love this, but there are quite a few nice ones in Monsoon, imo.

Goorgeous but I fear my tummy rules it out. It's not just a skin flap, it really is horrible 😕

Or this? (Way under budget!) www.johnlewis.com/adrianna-papell-jersey-maxi-gown-ivory/p5261799
Love rhe first one but the gorgeous top bit would probably only just cover my boobs so would hang funny I think

Hadn't even thought this would be a possibility! Great idea, thanks x

I usually go for a wrap dress for rare nights out

You could order, try on and return if needed. It says free returns, if that helps.

mrssmiling · 15/03/2021 18:09

Needle and Thread have some beautiful dresses. Link to one.

If you are 5'2, if you order a "tea length" dress it will probably be just above ankle length and might not need shortening?

Workyticket · 20/03/2021 21:12

I quite like this but my pal isn't keen!

Do you get on OK with shapewear?
My figure is similar (still have a bit of a flap but no c section) and my dress was very like that Monsoon one (and indeed was from Monsoon.)

Workyticket · 20/03/2021 21:53

@drspouse I'll definitely need shapewear - my belly is horrid

OP posts:
drspouse · 20/03/2021 22:11

I think you'll be OK with that style then. I had mine shortened by a dressmaker though, I'm 5ft 3.

Mosaic123 · 20/03/2021 22:22

Bombshell HQ have amazing stuff. Ring Katya the owner for advice. I have one of their dresses and I'm five foot. It's lovely!
