OK, so I'm mid 40s and have always been a bit rubbish with make up. I use the basics really - a bit of BB cream, powder and blusher, with a touch of eyeshadow and mascara. Sometimes foundation if I'm dressing up. Now I'm getting older and need a bit more help Grin, I'm trying to experiment with some different products, including creamier products. However, I also think I should maybe try applicators. I've only ever really used my fingers, plus those little wands that come with eyeshadow, and a big brush for blusher or a pad for powder. I'm thinking I maybe ought to invest in some brushes or similar, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions? What are the key things you use, what for, and where do you buy them? If it makes a difference, I have very fair skin, quite delicate and a little dry.

Real Techniques do some sets which are good quality, dry quickly and not a bad price. Sometimes they are on offer in boots and superdrug and tk Maxx have them sometimes.

For liquid foundation you might find a sponge works better than a brush like beauty blender or similar egg shaped sponge. They need to be wet under the two first and squeeze out moisture before using.

I second real techniques. They do loads of videos on YouTube under the name PixiWoo.

I use either their sponge or expert face brush for base products and the blush brush most days.

I also regularly use the bronzer, highlighter, and eye shadow brushes. One of the bigger denser eye shadow brushes I tend to use for concealer.

I have 9 brushes and a sponge. I have had other brands, shapes and sizes but this works well for me. I do often use my fingers to blend things as well so could have less but then I'd have to wash them more often!

Thanks both, I'll take a look.
