Collagen and cheap alteenatives

Collagen supplements are so expensive I'm looking at some cheaper alternatives.
Would I get some benefits if I were to start including the following in my diet

Rowntrees jelly
Tinned sardines (bones and scales)
Bone broth soup?
Start eating the skin on fish, chicken etc.

Why are people paying megabucks for collagen supplements when things like jelly and tinned sardines cost peanuts?
Are we being taken for mugs?
Or am I missing some thing? Confused

Ps. Tinned sardines are low mercury content.

I think the expensive collagen supplements are marine ones?
But are they any better?

Loads of people would rather take a tablet than eat enough of the things you've listed for them to make a noticeable difference to their appearance.

I'm vegetarian for starters, so would never eat any of those items. They sound absolutely rank. Not that I spend megabucks (or any bucks) on collagen supplements either...

If you're happy to change your diet and see what happens then go for it.

Yes. The bone broth sounds rank.
I like jelly and I like sardines on toast.
So I would go for those

I could possibly stomach bone broth if somebody made it for me Envy

I take Collagen supplements - have done for several years now. They are expensive. But I know for sure that my body is taking in 1500mg of collagen a day, of all four types of collagen, and alongside that the 300mg of hyaluronic acid included in the tablet. Something I'm not going to get from a tin of sardines on toast.

I guess people taking a supplement want to know they're taking in X amount in a measured way? Like any supplement really. You get vitamins and minerals from your diet but you might take a multivitamin anyway so you know you're getting X amount of whatever. Even if you KNOW its better to get it through diet. Probably the same with the collagen supplement. Gives people a sense of control that they might not have with changing their diet and wondering how many times a week they need sardines on toast for lunch to boost their collagen levels?

1500mg is 1.5g of protein & collagens just animal protein. We need around 40-50g a day depending on body weight & wee out what we don’t need, it won’t get used to plump skin because it’s not an essential item to the body. As long as it’s intact nature doesn’t care if it’s saggy.

Op, I’d go for the least processed option which is the tinned fish. Also whole nuts have protein, or eggs.

@lanique which ones do you use?

I make my own bone broth using left over roast chicken carcasses and chicken feet, the latter of which are one of the best sources of collagen. Bone broth is not disgusting at all, and if it is, it is because it hasn't been made properly.

If you are going to go the bone broth route, make sure the chicken organic and you use at 3-4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (with the mother) as this will break down the bones properly. It can be made in a few hours in a slow cooker and is really straightforward to do. If your bone broth doesn't gel when it is cold, it doesn't contain enough collagen.
