Laser hair removal — recommendation for teen in Greater London

My teen has Mediterranean blood....and a lot of hair! It is affecting her self esteem. She has begged for laser and our doctor has said it is ok. Can anyone recommend places in London to get this done? Please only respond if you have no link/financial interest in any salon. Many thanks!

How old is your DD, OP? I think some clinics have a minimum age requirement.

I really recommend Mayfair Aesthetics, they have branches in various parts of London.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 10/03/2021 17:24

I don't have any affiliation btw, I am just a happy customer!

Âge 14. Thanks for recommendation!

I'm not sure many clinics will take under 18s. I'm very hairy, and I remember feeling the same way your daughter did.
I get my laser treatment at Moda Donna through groupon. They have a clinic in Isle of Dogs (Canary Wharf).

14 is very young. I don’t know of anyone that age getting it done. What about sugar waxing?

homebird46 · 10/03/2021 19:00

I think most clinics insist on age 16, although it’s not surgery nor even entirely permanent.

I had Soprano hair removal at the Courthouse Clinic in Upper Wimpole Street. Very happy with results although I have had some pigment loss which I’ve covered with foundation when I can be bothered.

I can’t help you on salon recommendations but if she is too young you could always get her the Philips Lumea which has done a fantastic job on my hair.

StopAtTheRedLight · 10/03/2021 21:54

What is sugar waxing?

The soprano laser can cause pigment loss?

Thatswhatmamasaid · 11/03/2021 09:25

I'm also treated with the Soprano system but haven't has this issue, are you using SPF 50 every day? It's supposed to help prevent that....

rollinstrane · 24/03/2021 18:59

New York Laser Clinic are good and have a few locations. Not sure if they take clients that young though.

cashmerekisses · 24/03/2021 19:03

The Strip Wax Bars do good laser and they are in various locations around London, not sure on age requirements but maybe with Doctor consent they would consider it.

whenwewereveryyoung · 24/03/2021 19:04

Depilex in welbeck street are very good. Not glamorous, but they are experienced and do a good job. Assuming they're still in business--COVID must have been a knock.

NotquitewhatImeant · 24/03/2021 19:06

I’d second the Philips Lumea or other home ipl if you can. They are really good.

pipsqueakbollock · 24/03/2021 19:09

Make sure you get laser and not IPL
Only laser is permanent. (Phillips lumea is a form of IPL)

There's a balance on skin colour v hair colour v level of success. If the salon don't explain this then move on.

I imagine you may have to chaperone and sign some sort of waiver.

howrudeforme · 24/03/2021 19:09

Philips lumea. So I’m guessing she has dark hair on light skin. If so, she’s a good candidate.

I only got mine last year and it’s been a game changer.

pipsqueakbollock · 24/03/2021 19:10

Oh and it hurts - will she be able to tolerate that?.

whenwewereveryyoung · 24/03/2021 19:28

Compared with pretty much every other method it really doesn't hurt. Remember the horror that was electrolysis?

OrchidFlakes · 24/03/2021 19:37

Most salons insurance won’t allow them to treat under 18’s. You will need to search for a medical practice that offer it with a nurse or dr as their insurance categorisation will be different.

OlivesTree · 24/03/2021 20:03

I have the entry level model of the Phillips IPL hair remover (like lumea). It was under £100 and worked brilliantly. If I was going to buy again or buy for my daughter who would be likely to get more use out of it I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the higher end model, now knowing that the technology really does work.
Also had laser years many ago. Hurt like hell and hair still grew back over time. May have improved since then.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 24/03/2021 21:11

I had IPL - course of 6 sessions, once a month over 10 years ago. Hair hasn’t come back.

I have Mediterranean blood too - olive skin, dark hair.

I bought a home IPL machine for my armpits and legs, did them maybe 3 or 4 times about 5 years ago and again no regrowth.

Mine is SmoothSkin Gold, cheaper than Philips Lumea and hasn’t caused any skin discolouration, but even if it had, I’d prefer that to hair!!

I tried all sorts, bleach, wax, electrolysis, tweezing, etc It made me miserable my whole childhood/adolescence and it was totally life changing when I finally got rid of it for good in my 30s. Hope you can help her get it sorted ASAP.
