Let's talk bras...

I need help! My daughter has big boobs (for her age...12!) she currently fits into 34F. I suspect she's more a 32 (possibly a G cup now, I need to remeasure) but she doesn't like it to be tight.

The problem is she has really round boobs and the bog standard T-shirt bras that she wants to wear just don't fit right. Also once you get past F cup all the wires seen to come really far up the middle which won't work with the shape of her boobs.

For most of this lockdown she been wearing bras that are too small as everything we've tried just sits weirdly and is uncomfortable,

I'm thinking at looking at a balconette style but would appreciate any advice. Also they need to be plain as possible as she won't wear Lacy.

Also any advice on zip front sports bras which is her preference.

I will be measuring her again before I order but if anyone has reasonably large and round boobs then give a mum some advice!

So basically I want ideas for style, ideas for shops and best way to measure! Bear in mind budget too as I'm reasonably skint!

Have you measured using boob or bust website?
Bear in mind you don't add extra inches to the under bust measurement or the back ends up too big

CrystalMaisie · 10/03/2021 14:23

R.E.M. easier as suggested above. Then ring Bravissimo, they give great advice over the phone and may be able to direct you to which bra would suit her shape. You can order and send back many times on the same one postage cost.

Bras are like shoes, or jeans, you need to try a lot to find the most comfy and best fit for you.

VerityWibbleWobble · 10/03/2021 14:24

I would suggest waiting until stores re-open and going to see a specialist.

She needs proper support but because her breast tissue is still developing you'll need to be careful with underwires. The usual rules of measuring are different to a fully grown adult female.

dementedpixie · 10/03/2021 14:49

I'm not sure the measuring is different for younger girls tbh.
P.s. dont use M&S. They put me in 40C and I'm actually 36GG

youmakemydreamscometrue · 10/03/2021 14:58

Firstly make sure she's measured properly. Can do it at home using the boob or bust measuring.
Balcony bras might be best suited for her shape as the wires don't come as far up in the middle.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2021 15:56

The measuring isn't significantly different for young girls - you just need to be ultra cautious and monitor fit so the wires don't end up sitting on breast tissue rather than around it. I'd also generally say to buy with the cups on the big side as she's likely to keep growing (not suggesting buying "too big", just when you are in between err on the big side)

The issues you describe with shape are quite normal.

I'd suggest as others have that you look at Bravissimo and specialist DD+ brands, I have issues with tall central wires too although they're less of an issue now that when I was younger.

Have you looked at something like the Freya Deco? Classic T shirt bra, plain versions available. Bravissimo also have a couple of own brand t shirt bras (the Nya is one) which are low in the centre.

shouldistop · 10/03/2021 16:00

Definitely boob or bust method and have a look at bravissimo. I know they're quite expensive but there are some comfy more sporty looking bras that might feel more modern for her.

Bananaman123 · 10/03/2021 16:13

Elomi bras dont come up too high on some bras and are comfortable, good quality. I think its the plunge bras that sit lower

londongirl12 · 10/03/2021 16:31

Agree with above, don't go to M&S. They measured me as 36A, a few different shops all measured me as 34D!!!

FinallyHere · 10/03/2021 17:00

I was that 12 year old whose body developed to my utter embarrassment. I thought I was genuinely deformed until I saved up hard and had a fitting at R&P fully expecting to have something custom made

No tape measures in sight, imagine my surprise to have a range of lovely bras to choose from. And be shown how to adjust the straps and hooks to allow for small changes in my body.

Just bliss. No exaggeration to say it transformed my life. Not long now til they can open again. I honestly say it's worth taking a days holiday for the experience.

oohmyback · 10/03/2021 17:23

Thanks all so much! I will have a look at some options. I would wait until
Stores open but she needs at least 2 now and a sports bra. There's no way she's going back to school in her too small bras. She's isolating for now so I have a bit of leeway!

Try a Cleo Hettie bra

TangerineGenie · 10/03/2021 17:35

This was me, I could get bras to fit but they were all very lacy styles and all i wanted was a plain bra.

Shock absorber do a zip up sports bra - Shock Absorber Active Zipped Plunge Bra - I recently got one in the sale. I'm a 30f normally but got a 32e.

For day to day bras I wear gossard glossies - www.bravissimo.com/products/glossies-bra-gs110 - the see through aspect might put her off, but I like the fact that they're not too deep at the front or have super wide straps.

DumpedByText · 10/03/2021 18:04

I'd look on the boob or bust site for help, I wore a 38dd bra for years, so uncomfortable.

Measured using their advice I'm a 36G and the bra fits lovely.

Makeuplover · 10/03/2021 18:24

My DD who is ten is a 28G

Makeuplover · 10/03/2021 18:27

Also she probably isn’t a 34 or 32. I am a size 12 and am that. molke.co.uk/pages/size-advice

DianaT1969 · 10/03/2021 18:35

Freya and Panache Cleo design for younger bodies.
Panache bands are snug.

MusicWithRocksIn1t · 10/03/2021 18:40

This lady does amazing fittings even online and she can send you things thay might work to give you a starting point to work from?

Remove the space obviously :)

oohmyback · 10/03/2021 18:43

@makeuplover she IS a size 10-12. She's really broad shouldered and has measured as a 32 last year on boob or bust. She's as tall as me with size 7 feet. She's woman sized!

oohmyback · 14/03/2021 18:57

I finally got her to let me measure her abd it's the first time I've seen them in a few months. She has grown an enormous amount!!

Measured as 32 GG on noon or just So I'm off to see what I can find now!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
