I need help my skin is awful. I'm 40 and my skin is so dry. Pictures taken are with tinted moisturiser. My skin just sucks everything in and looks lumpy and old and the texture is horrid and quite red in places

Currently use
Superficialist Vit C cleansing oil
Superdrug glycolic pads
Superdrug pure sceam
Boots ingredients hyaluronic acid moisturiser

I skin is on the sensitive side and I want a simple routine on a budget and prefer to cleanse and wash off with flannel

Any advice for a starting point to improve?

OP, have you been tested for rosacea?

It might be worth reading up on it. If it’s a possibility, stop with all the products and go for something much gentler that’s suitable for sensitive still. I use L’Oreal Fine Flowers cleanser and toner and Soolantra (bought from an online pharmacy - they can diagnose you from your pictures though I already knew I had it from my GP), and now for moisturiser I just use Nivea Blue (and sometimes I do an overnight facemask of a good layer of Sudocrem which really calms down my skin. I’ve used lots of different brands, including v.expensive ones and specialist dermatological ones and this is what works best for me.

I wouldn’t use glycolic acid on dry skin I’d use the ordinary retinol 0.2% at night 20 minutes after cleansing and find a moisturiser, dermalogica do some good ones.

You really need to drink enough water and eat really well too, I found after 40 I couldn’t phone it in.

Are you using sunblock daily?.

lazylockdowner · 10/03/2021 09:36

Fluffycloudland77 actually thinking about it I think my skin is more dehydrated than dry, I don't get flakes or anything and at times it can appear a bit shiny in places.

I have these products from the ordinary (pic) but I honestly have no idea how or what order to use them... any advice

Definitely don't drink enough water so going to get on that

Do you use moisturising face masks, OP? I love Avene for this. Also, do you do any facial massage? I find this helps with skin texture a bit.

Oh and the Superdrug Glycolic pads contain alcohol, so could be dehydrating your skin. I used to use them and thought they were great for brightening initially, but then noticed my skin looked quite dull, so I checked the ingredients and alcohol was quite high up in the list so stopped using them.

I’d email Deciem, tell them your skin concerns and what you’ve got so far so they can suggest a routine. My skins oily so I don’t use moisturiser. They are very helpful if a bit saccharine.

The retinol goes on dry skin at night. You can put a moisturiser on over it. Do it early so it’s not going into your pillowcase at night.

You need a sunblock like you’d use on holiday, try a mineral one because chemical ones degrade during the day. They can leave you looking white so I put powder on top.
