SPF for face when running

Spring is on the way and this year I’m marathon training so going to be spending a longer amount of time out in the sun. Can anyone recommend a good sun cream for my face that won’t run when I sweat and also isn’t really thick and greasy? TIA

Also, I’d rather it didn’t cost the Earth...

.....well it is a bit pricey but la Roche Posay antihelios one in a square ISH bottle is fabulous. Doesn't make your eyes sting even if like me you are a redheaded very sweaty runner !

ihaveallergies · 09/03/2021 16:33

This one is amazing, literally “invisible”. It genuinely feels like nothing was applied to the skin.

It’s £14 but Boots always have offers on, maybe you have an advantage card offer you can use

I wear the garner face fluid spf50. It dries really light, non greasy and I don't notice it coming off when I'm running.

applespearsbears · 09/03/2021 16:38

I've tried a lot and the sure fire winner is P20 spf 50 - does not shift after hours in the sun and sweat

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/03/2021 16:41

Ultrasun do a sports sunblock, it’s medium price range BUT it’s not tested on animals.

Alittlebitlostrightnow · 09/03/2021 18:19

Thank you! Really helpful suggestions. I’ve looked at that La Roche Posay one and I don’t mind paying that...but will definitely look out for offers. Not a redhead but definitely very sweaty 🥵

Another vote for the LRP in the square bottle - I think it says shaka fluid on it somewhere. I always stock up when it’s 3 for 2.
I tried the anti-shine one, but it pills dreadfully on me.

Altruist (you can buy on Amazon) is amazing and they’ve just launched a new face version. It’s made by a dermatologist and a percentage of profits go to charity. Spf 50 and full UVA protection:

I use loads as it needs to go over neck, chest, ears etc. And I run 4/5 times a week. So it needs to be cheap! I do like the Roche-Posay one but I found I wasn’t being that generous with it because it’s more pricey.

FreshFaceTime · 09/03/2021 20:26

I used the LRP one after seeing it recommended on here and it made my eyes sting 😒

Have used Altruist since I had my kids but didn't realise they did a facial sunscreen too so thought I'd give that a whirl instead. It's brilliant! Sinks in nicely. No white residue. No stinging. £8 from Amazon.

RandomUsernameHere · 09/03/2021 20:27

Watching with interest! I'm using LRP Anthelios at the moment but thinking of trying something else

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/03/2021 22:50

Don’t forget lip sunblocks too, superdrug do cruelty free ones. I read uva contributes to thinning of the lips by degrading collagen.

I keep one in the car too.

megafish · 09/03/2021 22:54

I ran the Miami marathon in banana boat ultra sport. On the thicker side, but didn't budge or run into my eyes.

Delatron · 09/03/2021 23:01

I wear a cap for every run too. Sunglasses if sunny.

VetOnCall · 09/03/2021 23:35

I run a lot and I use Biore Watery Essence on my face, you can get it on Amazon (it ships from Asia but delivery is usually pretty fast). It's really lightweight and non greasy, sinks in immediately. I always wear a cap or visor when running too. This is my favourite cap, it's ultra lightweight, has mesh sides for ventilation and the top and visor give UPF30 sun protection. It's so good I have 5 of them in different colours:

Stumpedasatree · 10/03/2021 10:52

Be careful with Altruist. I run alot and when I was using it during the summer I got lots of melasma type sun damage. I think it was the cream not providing enough protection.

Lamentations · 10/03/2021 16:17

LRP is 25% off in Boots at the moment. It's what I use in summer, love it.

Delatron · 10/03/2021 19:33

You need SPF all year though. UVA rays are present and the same strength all year round. Even through cloud. So factor 50 whatever the weather is a good idea.

Lamentations · 10/03/2021 20:16

Yes of course. I just meant I use different SPF summer and winter and LRP is my summer as it's extra hardcore. Never drop below 25 all year round. Not even sure if your post was to me but anyway.
MoltonSilver · 10/03/2021 20:24

I use this from LRP. It's very lightweight and I've never had any sun damage even in hot climates.

superram · 10/03/2021 20:28

Lrp makes my eyes sting just walking around, I couldn’t wear it to run and have given two bottles away. I use boots no7.

Veterinari · 10/03/2021 20:28

Sunsense
Light, non greasy excellent uva and uvb protection (remember you need both!)
And the tinted version is brilliant at smoothing your complexion

sunsense

superram · 10/03/2021 20:30

I also really like boots soltan 50+ kids sun stick or the decathlon one. It’s the only thing that works when skiing and would be good when you are out running, but make up over the top wouldn’t be great.

Delatron · 10/03/2021 20:36

Sorry @Lamentations I thought you just meant spf in summer.

Lamentations · 10/03/2021 20:57

No it's good to say it - I only learned that a couple of years ago myself.
