Hello, Is this the holy grail? I'm looking for a bra without the hooks at the back as the metal makes me itch, as does anything with lace etc. Im prone to eczema if nickel is involved. Thank you...

Can I suggest that you measure yourself using the boob or bust method first. I suspect that you aren't actually a 36B.

Molke is a brand you might want to consider.

dementedpixie · 09/03/2021 08:15

If you're a 12/14 then you're probably wearing the wrong size bra. I'm a 20/22 and wear a 36 back bra. Maybe measure using the boob or bust guide to double check sizing.

The fastenings shouldn't be touching your skin to cause itching. Could you try a pull on style?

It's like RampantIvy is in my head. I came here to write that too.

What they said Grin
Measure yourself with this guide
www.booborbust.com/
Then come back and tell us what your size actually is!
You might get on with bralettes if you don't want hooks.

FreshFaceTime · 09/03/2021 09:44

Totally agree with everyone else. If you're a 12/14 your band size is unlikely to be 36. You probably need a smaller band and (much) larger cup size.

PachinkoFreeFood · 09/03/2021 10:14

What!!! I'm apparently a 32F!!

I just used www.booborbust.com ... thank you so much for suggesting I do that. I'll order one and see how I get on.
Bit worried someone just saw me through the window bending over with my T Rex arm boobs getting different measurements. Grin

I'm a 12 on top and I wear a 30FF so your proper size doesn't surprise me at all. It might feel a bit tight to begin with or you may have to fiddle about trying a few different styles but that new size sounds much more realistic to me.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/03/2021 10:45

It's amazing, isn't it, OP? I'm a 10 and was wearing a 34B or 36A and my friend who's a much bigger dress size told me she wears a 36, and I must be in the wrong size (M&S). This was a few years ago, so I trotted off to John Lewis and got measured as a 32D. Quite the difference!

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2021 10:56

38F??!!!

ShockShock

Im a size 14/16 and have been wearing a 36DD for years!

Can we rely on it? I badly need to buy a couple of new bras.

dementedpixie · 09/03/2021 10:59

If you can fit a 36 back bra then I wouldn't go to a 38 back @ElspethFlashman. Do you have overspill in your current bra? Does the central bit sit on your body between your breasts? You may just need a bigger cup size rather than a bigger back

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2021 11:08

Tbh the cup has always seemed fine. Indeed Righty is more a D than a DD, in my mind.

But I'd believe the 38 as the band feels a bit tight. But no overspill as I'm not that fleshy up top really and the bras sit normally.

But the 36DD was measured pre-kids and pre-breastfeeding, in fairness.

Not really sure what cup to try if I wanted to move up to a 38. An F seems like a jump, especially for Righty!

dementedpixie · 09/03/2021 11:12

Also depends on the bra style as to what fits best - I get space in the top if I wear a full cup bra and prefer balconette or plunge bras. Sometimes the bra can feel tight if the cup is too small as well.

dementedpixie · 09/03/2021 11:13

Is your measurement under bust 38?
Sister size of 36DD would be 38D if you want same cup volume on a bigger back

FreshFaceTime · 09/03/2021 11:14

The band will feel tight if the cups are too small though? I would stick with the 36 band and go up in your cup sizes and see if you get a better fit.

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2021 11:24

It was 37 when I measured.

I might try a 38D.....hmmm.....hard to know.

AnotherEmma · 09/03/2021 11:40

BoB instructions are to take two measurements under the bust; tight (pulling measuring tape as tight as it can go) and snug. It can't have been 37 for both?

Bra sizing can vary between brand and styles so you might find that if it comes up small/tight in the band, you need 38, but otherwise 36 might be best.

The way to check the fit of the band is to do the backwards band test; put bra on backwards (so no confusion caused by wrong cup size) do it up on the loosest hook and see how far you can pull out the band - it shouldn't be more than a few cm.

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2021 12:17

No it was 37.5 snug.

I'm going to try a 38D for starters as it can't be too wrong. There will be quite a bit of trial and error, I suspect!

AnotherEmma · 09/03/2021 12:26

If BoB says 38F, 38D is likely to be too small in the cup, as it's 3 whole cup sizes smaller. Maybe try 38DD and/or 38E?
