Moisturiser for very dry skin on face

My face is so so dry, can anyone recommend anything?

I put moisturiser on and ten minutes later my forehead is really dry again and my nose peels with dry skin every day, I've already moisturised twice this morning :(

Can anyone suggest anything for me?

Someone else will probably have a better idea but have you ever tried Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream? I use it on the coldest days when my skin gets very dry, but it is thick, like a balm.

Can you maybe try added more oily foods into your diet? Avocados are excellent for instance.

Eucerin 5% urea face cream is absolutely brilliant. Intensely moisturising and stops tightness and flaking but not thick and gloopy. Makeup goes on top fine for me.

I would also switch out your cleanser to a cream or balm. I've recently gone back to Liz Earle cleanse and polish and forgot how nice it was. No foaming cleansers or harsh treatments (facial washes for spots etc) as these will exacerbate the dryness.

You could also add in a hyularonic acid serum before moisturising, I know lots swear by it although it doesn't seem to work for me.

If the heating's on a lot at home consider turning it down or placing a glass of water in the room to humidify it.

Lastly keep hydrated!

Op I feel your pain, I have suffered for so long with horrible dry flaky skin but think i’ve finally tackled the dryness, still a little dehydrated but can live with that

Firstly- exfoliate, its so important to get rid of the dead skin. I started with a physical exfoliater and then and now use a glycolic toner.

Serum- definitely need hyaluronic acid serum, best applied to damp face so it soaks right in, i’m very happy with the ordinary one

Moisturiser- good old nivea blue, my trick is to rub and warm it up between fingers before applying- or Aldi’s caviar cream both are extremely moisturising.

Another god send cream is weleda skin food, Its very thick so definitely need to warm it up between fingers, When I started my routine, i used this as my day cream but now that I have it under control i can get away with the other 2 and only use weleda every 2/3 days at night time.

Do sympathise. E45 works really well for me. I have a large bottle of the lotion which takes off makeup, and use the thicker cream as a moisturiser. In lockdown I have been using far less makeup, which seems to help too. I have a bottle of this victoriahealth.com/100-pure-prickly-pear-seed-oil/ which also helps with dryness. Apparently it’s one of Nigella’s beauty secrets - seems to work for her! 😁

I also find E45 cream (in the tube) brilliant for 'skin first aid'

bluemagpie · 09/03/2021 09:13

Avene cicalfate is the only cream I have ever found which helps with my dry patches. It’s brilliant stuff.

Thank you so much for the suggestions, I will start trying them

I’ve started using the nivea daily for sensitive skin and it’s pretty good. But I got a free sample of Kate Somerville Delikate recovery cream and it is brilliant. But the price not so brilliant....

Another vote for eucerin I use this is the morning and then e45 before bed. I also drink 2-3lts water a day.

Tehmina23 · 09/03/2021 10:18

I think: cleanse with a cream cleanser, use an alcohol free toner, exfoliate twice a week eg try Clinique seven day scrub which is gentle, use a serum, then a good day cream (don't forget spf).
At night use a night cream after serum.

Also try moisturising masks a couple of times a week.

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2021 10:25

Weleda Skin Food was waaaaay too moisturising for me, so it would definitely be a contender for you! It didn't sink in for hours!

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2021 10:27

I once spent some time in the desert and used the Eucerin 5% on my face every night and it stopped it from falling off, so that's a definite recommend, lol.

Avene cicalfate

I'd second this. Brilliant stuff.
