Help with frizzy hair

I have shoulder-length, wavy hair that is prone to frizz, and I need some new products to combat it so any recommendations would be most welcome.

My hair is quite thin, and I usually wear it naturally wavy, but do straighten it on occasion, so something with heat protection would also be helpful. I always end up with a crown of frizz!

I am happy to spend a decent amount for the right products, just want something that will work. Any suggestions?

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Wonder Water - I think it's just become available in the UK. My hair is long, frizzy and thick, but I see in the reviews people saying it works on shorter and finer hair. (It's only £9.99.)

I use John Frieda frizz ease. My hair is poker straight but a little tiny blob of it stops it becoming static and fly away. Could work for you.

TheDogsMother · 09/03/2021 14:19

John Frieda Frizz ease shampoo and conditioner followed by a dollop of Charles Worthington Leave In Conditioner. It took me years to find this solution but it works for me.

Nevertooearlyforamojito · 09/03/2021 14:25

@TheDogsMother, can I ask, doesn't the double dose of conditioner leave a build up? I've always been tempted to use a leave in conditioner, but was worried it would make my hair greasy. I certainly wouldn't thought of putting it on after conditioning. My hair is so dry though, so I'd maybe give it a go...

TheDogsMother · 09/03/2021 18:29

Not it doesn't in my hair but the Charles Worthington is quite light. I tend to avoid rubbing either conditioner into the roots though.

I only use conditioner to wash my hair and put in a tiny bit of kerastase oil in when it’s wet, then I blast nearly dry then tame the waves with a brush. Then I hairspray and leave to try naturally.

Shu Uemura shusu sleek range, its the best.

GoldieShawn · 09/03/2021 19:33

Thanks for all your suggestions, I will start looking into the brands you have all recommended.

Do the aveda hair quiz day & try sample sizes. It’s not cheap but it’s annoyingly effective.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 10/03/2021 06:29

You don't need to spend a lot but you do need something . Are you sure it isn't curly ? My super curly hair left to it's own devices is a frizzy mess ! Put some curl cream on it before diffusing for find out!

GoldieShawn · 10/03/2021 15:13

Thanks for the tip @Fluffycloudland77, I have tried the quiz and have ordered some samples. I had looked into Aveda products before so am interested to see if they work for me.

@huuuuunnnndderrricks I have tried to attach a photo of my type of hair when it dries naturally. The waves look like this (different colour though!) and there's the added frizz! I do actually like the waves and it straightens nicely as well, but I just end up with lots of frizz around my crown.

I think it could be curly, have you tried some product and leaving it to dry ? Or better duffsing it ?

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 10/03/2021 15:59

This is with and without product .. shocking difference ! Admittedly the frizz one is brushed out before washing but you see what product can do!

PersonaNonGarter · 10/03/2021 16:35

IGK Mistress Hair Balm. Awesome.

Please can you tell me how you get your hair like the 2nd pic ? Unfortunately mine resembles the first unless I straighten it ☹️
Haricot · 11/03/2021 10:53

Wow, you clearly have amazing curly hair. Ditch the silicones, no brushing or combing (unless your hair is wet). Research the curly girl method (join the Facebook group called “curly hair method” uk support group). Learn about co washing, squish to condish, forming a cast and scrunching out the crunch!

GoldieShawn · 11/03/2021 13:11

@huuuuunnnndderrricks wow your hair looks amazing! What products do you use? I've washed and air dried my hair today with some Frizz Ease serum-I've attached a photo of what it looks like. Do you think my hair would qualify as curly?

Yes ! With the right products and process! I use flora and curl at the moment but it's a process to find one your hair likes so start cheap .. I wash and condition and then put curl cream on soaking wet hair , scrunch and the towel dry gently by scrunching then diffuse .. look up curly girl , I guarantee you can make it look at least wavy but under control!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 11/03/2021 13:25

@hetty74 as above .. curl cream on soaking wet hair , scrunch , dab with towel then diffuse ... have a look at the curly girl method but I don't do silicone free .. I've had curly hair since childhood and my mum used to brush it so it looked like the first pic .. so tragic!!

Thanks so much @huuuuunnnndderrricks .
I’ve tried curly girl a couple of times without success...will give your method a try and see how it goes .

whataboutbob · 11/03/2021 20:08

@huuuuunnnndderrricks my hair looks like your last pic ( on a good day ie after washing). I haven’t used shampoo for about 6 years. I wash and condition with Faith in Nature conditioner. My hair is so much better, it used to look like a Brillo pad. Avoiding silicones is key for thick dry hair.

whataboutbob · 11/03/2021 20:09

@hetty74 I had to persevere for a few months before it looked good. I nearly gave up...

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 11/03/2021 20:16

Weirdly without silicones my hair is all sticky and gross . I just use head and shoulders and a curl cream and diffuse . The key for me is product , I can't leave my hair to air dry as it will end up like my previous pic which is frankly hideous !
