Aibu to return this?

Ordered a knit jumpsuit in late December.

The fabric heavily pills in any area where there’s friction, eg between legs, underarms, where my bag rests against it. After one wear, it’s a matted, bobbly mess in those areas and looks awful.

I intended to return it at the time, but then Christmas, store closures and lockdown happened. TBH I should have sorted it much earlier but put it on the back burner. Aibu to return it now due to the passage of time?

Also would you consider the item faulty or reasonable wear & tear?

That would annoy me but the deciding factor would be:
How much did it cost. If it was cheap, I am not sure I would.
If it was pricey then yes but I would email them first to explain.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 07/03/2021 19:40

If it is cheap, I would just de-bobble it.

LunaHeather · 07/03/2021 19:42

A lot of places have extended returns

But it doesn't sound fit for purpose, how many times has it been worn?

PegasusReturns · 07/03/2021 19:51

Depends on original cost and how much you’ve worn it.

ihaveallergies · 08/03/2021 10:36

Thanks all!

So it was £70 (Zara) and worn once. I stopped wearing it after how badly the material wore away, thought it would only get worse. Annoyed at myself for not returning it earlier.

I’ll look into de-bobble tools. Reckon it would happen again as the material is fragile/thin? I can wear it without wearing a bag to prevent that from causing an issue, but can’t really stop my thighs from touching haha

Highly recommend this sort. You just have to use them very, very, very gently! Frankly, though - for that kind of money, at Zara, I'd try for a refund first. That's really disappointing.

@justilou1 appreciate your advice, thanks Smile the Amazon reviews made me laugh!

AHH was it that nice beige/camel jumpsuit they had in? Glad my colouring means beige us a bit blah on me!
I would be annoyed at that it really depends if you get the right person on the day with these kind of returns.

Lamentations · 08/03/2021 14:08

I would consider that faulty and ask to send it back for a refund. What's the worst that can happen?

Fortherosesjoni70 · 08/03/2021 14:20

I would email them at least to try.

justilou1 · 08/03/2021 14:25

@ihaveallergies - maybe not that specific one! If the fabric is fine, not that type. They do a great job on jumpers, though!

Rina66 · 08/03/2021 14:34

Good luck with trying to return that, Zara are awful with returns, gear up for a fight!
I once bought a blouse from one store, they’d left the tag in, tried to take it back to my nearest Zara (Hertfordshire), whereupon I was told I had to go back to the original store (London) that I’d bought it. I had the receipt but they still maintained they’d need to check the CCTV to make sure I’d actually paid for it. The manager rang head office as I refused to leave the store and was telling everyone in the queue, suffice to say, they eventually took the tag off but “just this once”! Sadly I still shop there, can’t help it 😂

Fairyliz · 08/03/2021 17:01

Good luck with Zara, I think they are absolutely terrible with returns.
I had a problem with a broken zip after wearing jeans once. I took them back and they treated me like dirt suggesting I had broken it deliberately.
Fortunately I was able to stand my ground and didn’t care that everyone in the queue was giving me the evils because I refused to move.

Janaih · 08/03/2021 17:06

Agree Zara are not good with returns but I would try. Definitely not fit for purpose and your legal right.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 08/03/2021 17:50

Hi into your Zara account and request a return stating it's faulty . The warehouse are much less likely to argue and send it back to you than the shop.. I don't think it's fit for purpose to go like that after one wear !

PolloDePrimavera · 08/03/2021 17:52

Zara aren't great with returns but it's always worth a try.

ihaveallergies · 08/03/2021 22:41

Okay so I followed @huuuuunnnndderrricks advice and requested a faulty return through the app. Went though fine - they sent me a shipping label for immediate return.

Then I messed up! I messaged Zara to ask if I needed to explain the fault anywhere or just return it. They asked for photos/details to open a “case” and the “relevant department” will contact me with an “update”. I am to ignore the shipping instructions sent to me earlier, and only return it when this has been investigated!

All seems very dramatic, you were right that Zara would be difficult! I should have just sent it backGrin

ihaveallergies · 08/03/2021 22:41

Can’t believe how they’ve treated some of you in store though😟 awful

OP posts:
Mrstwiddle · 09/03/2021 00:14

I haven’t been in a Zara for almost 10 years after a mannequin fell on me and I got treated like it was my fault!

I do remember their clothes being fairly rubbish quality though.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 09/03/2021 06:02

Oh no , you should have just posted it with a note saying what the fault was . It would take more effort to send it back to you without a refund .. never mind , you know for next time !
I actually would still just send it back and state the reasons why and let them deal with it at their end ..
I work in high street retail by the way ( not Zara ) ...

Janaih · 09/03/2021 07:56

I would also still send it back! CF's Zara!
