DH had very very dark brown hair as a young man but it started going grey in his late 20s and now, 20 years later, it's pretty much completely white/grey. he doesn't mind the white in itself, he just feels it's incredibly dull and boring.

He could dye it completely but we both agree that's just going to look odd at this point and actually, he doesn't want to try pretend to have completely dark hair. ideally, he wants to make it more salt and pepper than just salt. But we're not sure how to go about this? Is it even possible? Any recommendations?

I'm quite good at dying my own hair but I just use semi perm colour and bang, it's done. This is an entirely different kettle of fish!

And on that note, is that Just For Men stuff worth it?

A decent hairdresser could put some kind of lowlights in I guess, but it's not something I'd try at home, unless he's prepared to shave it all off if it goes wrong. Sort of reverse highlights. I suppose you could try painting on temporary dye in tiny streaks. How risk averse is he? Snd how blamed would you be if it went wrong?

I think the would be a hairdresser job tbh.
I can imagine it would take lots and lots of very thin lowlights and not sure what could happen with a shorter back & sides, if he has a traditional men’s style?
My DH has been thinking about hair dye but he has it so short and shaved back and sides it just wouldn’t work.
