A question for the hairdressers amongst us

I have died red/burgundy hair but literally no natural colour underneath now and presently have about 4 inches of grey/white roots. Yes I'm a stunner! Hairdresser appointment booked for reopening date but I think I'd like to change the colour altogether. It fades quickly and I've not been able to cover up any regrowth that due to the uniqueness of the colour.
What's the best strategy here in preparation? Do I try and strip the red out myself and if so how or leave it til they reopen and hope a different colour will work over the top? There's so much colour left on the middle and ends that I doubt it would cover over. Any advice before I ruin my own hair?

Please please please do not try and strip your hair. You will only damage your hair. Wait and see your hairdresser.

It depends on what you want, a warm dark color like a brown will be easy to achieve in 1-2 appointments. The red might show through the first time but if it's a warm brown it'll work well together and won't look weird, after coloring it a 2nd time it should disappear. That's my experience at least with dyed bright red hair.

If you want a cool color like an ashy brown, or a light color like blonde, you can't get there quickly without damaging your hair. Olaplex really helps limit the damage of lightening so make sure you goto a salon that has it if you go down the bleach route.

That's what I want a more browny colour. Will hold my horses then. Thank you both Smile
