I have got the tangliest hair in the world. Help me before I do a Britney!

I'm not kidding. Bob marley could have run a comb through his hair quicker than I can. It took me 20 minutes this morning just to tease out the massive birds nest enough to go in the shower and was it.

I brush and wash it every day. Lots of conditioner. I find having it in a pony tail only makes it worse. It's quite long (not quite elbow length) and very fine.

Is there a wonder product? Please don't let the wonder product be a pair of scissors. I love long hair - I don't think I'd feel like me with it shorter.

Any help?

plait it

MamaG · 06/11/2007 08:47

for bed, taht is

HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 06/11/2007 08:48

long layers?

I shall keep an eye on this thread as my hair tangles as well....

BroccoliSpears · 06/11/2007 09:13

I'll try plaiting it at night.

Not sure there's enough of it to stand layers. It's a pain isn't it Norty - I really resent the time wasted every morning trying to detangle it.

I wouldn't mind if it was energetic nights of coital acrobatics giving me bed head, but last night I went to bed at 10.00 with a hot lemon and my book! No fair.

I'm lucky in that I have really thick hair (but only shoulder length) so I just yank it out with a brush twice a day. I'm worse than the dog, my hair gets EVERYWHERE!

Mercy · 06/11/2007 09:19

Try olive oil.

fishie · 06/11/2007 09:21

yes plait or in bun for bed. sounds like you are damaging it with all this brushing to untangle. i've got fine curly hair and i only ever comb it wet in the shower with conditioner on. that should detangle it without ripping it. and get a proper detangling comb from boots, brushes are not good on fine hair.

loler · 06/11/2007 09:54

I find citre shine spray laminator works really well on dds hair. Sounds similar to yours. I spray it on when wet then on the knotty bits when dry. Boots sell it.

MrsBadger · 06/11/2007 10:13

get it cut - you could lose 6" and it'd still be long, and it'd improve the condition of the ends. And it'll grow again.

I agree that brushes are only good for giving a quick smooth to the top layers - you need a comb for detangling - this is the best one in the world, truly.

BroccoliSpears · 06/11/2007 13:13

You're probably right fishie and Mrs B - I think I may be in denial about how out of condition it is. Perhaps a good cut and get rid of the ends would help a lot.

Mercy - olive oil how? Wouldn't it be terribly greasy?

Loler - will look out for that, thank you.

Just wanted to say the the combing through conditioner in the shower has made a huge difference. Thank you!

Will still be getting it cut a bit as soon as I have the cash spare. I worked out that I've not had a trim in 16 months .

No you haven't...I have

I've broken 2 denman hairbrushes in it!

I either

Brush it through when wet
Brush it with conditioner in (well, sunsilk for waves and curls after you've washed and conditioned)
Douse it in kids detangler

ChubbyScotsBurd · 09/11/2007 16:20

Have you tried semen?

Trim an inch off the ends and start using Herbal Essences conditioners, they're really good for tangles.

BroccoliSpears · 09/11/2007 19:33

Arf @ the semen thread.

I slap on that Frize ease stuff or whatever it's called

but I got fed up with mine (was only down to just past my shoulders) - it's also very fine and gets horribly tangled

I got it chopped (to between my ears and shoulders) and it's MARVELLOUS.

Honestly, the no more knots is well worth the shorter hair!

haychee · 09/11/2007 19:41

Kersatase hair mask

see here

Its the dogs bollocks! Tangle free for at least 24hours.

Heated · 09/11/2007 19:50

I comb through conditioner & use John Frieda Frizz Ease when drying it and if the barnet's still looking scary, a tiny bit of John Freida Secret Agent Flawless Finishing Creme sorts it out.

tyaca · 10/11/2007 03:00

silk pillowcase. really. stops it getting worse in sleep

TheBlonde · 10/11/2007 07:17

serum works for me
I used to plait it at night but can't be bothered with that anymore
