Is olaplex worth the price?

My hair is fucked. I bleached it one too many times and then had to cut half of it off as it was so broken. It's nearly a year later and my ends are still ridiculously dry and frazzled even with it regularly being trimmed. What the hell can I use to help my hair? Or is the only solution to keep cutting it till all the damaged hair is gone? In all honesty I look awful with short hair.. I dont have a very nice looking face and I feel so self conscious with it this length. I just want it to grow and be healthier Sad I'm so sad I ruined my hair, if anyone can recommend anything I'd be really grateful. Tia

Yeah, Olaplex will help with that, although I've only ever used it immediately after the event rather than a year later, iyswim. If you can find someone to get you some Olaplex 2, it'll work even better and be more cost effective.

Kittykat93 · 06/03/2021 07:24

Thanks for your response. Do you think the shampoo and conditioner are worth getting? I keep doing loads of hair masks and coconut oil but I do not think they are helping much.

3 should be able to help you. 1 and 2 are more in the hairdresser. Some hairdresser would put it on you as a treatment if requested (and paid ) but if you’d rather avoid the price then 3 can help

ZaraW · 06/03/2021 08:05

3 is great but used with 0 the results are even better.

MuddleMoo · 06/03/2021 08:42

You can get a little trial set of 3,4,5&6

Anthilda · 06/03/2021 08:55

Here are 2 suggestions for good shampoo
1 tigi bed head, I use the red bottle, it's amazing.
2 redken all soft, not used it yet but seen an amazing review of it and tempted to order when tigi runs out.

Once you've washed the hair use loreal mythic oil applied to mid lengths and ends, combed through (starting at the ends) with a tangle teaser.

Lay off the heat if your using it and do a fortnightly overnight application of opalex 3.

Ostryga · 06/03/2021 08:58

I quite like it, but it’s not a game changer. And SO expensive.

I’ve had far, far better results with Elvive Dream Lengths wonder water. 8 seconds in the shower and my hair is wonderful. Feels the same as 2/3 Olaplex at home treatments. Highly recommend!

Anthilda · 06/03/2021 08:59

A combination of a high strength zinc, biotin, iron, b complex and fish oil supplements will help with growth.

BangingOn · 06/03/2021 09:01

I found Olaplex trial and error- the only one that worked for me is the 7 oil, but it is incredible.

kmini · 06/03/2021 09:25

You need 0 and 3 apparently op if you want to do at home. I'm trying it for the 1st time tonight.

My hair was in a state too. I started using nexxus keratin shampoo. It has significantly improved the condition and I can unequivocally say no shampoo and condition have provided any improvement to my hair in the past. My hair is hugely more manageable since using this. Hoping olaplex is the cherry of top.

mdh2020 · 06/03/2021 09:35

Yes is the answer to your question. I use Olaplex 3, not every wash obviously, but my hair is different when I don’t. My hair is more lustrous and more manageable when I do. I use John Frieda’s Hydrate and Recharge shampoo, conditioner and hair mask and I find they have improved the condition of my hair.

AlwaysLatte · 06/03/2021 09:40

I love Olaplex. I've missed my hair appointments 😭

I don't know. I manage to get hold of the big salon bottles of Number 2 and do it myself at home. Number 3 has the rebonding chemical in it too, which is what you want. I wouldn't expect that the shampoo and conditioner could have much impact in rebonding since they're on your hair for such a short period of time.
DollyTots · 06/03/2021 09:55

I came off the pill a year ago and the health of my hair has gradually deteriorated to a really sorry state. Unfortunately, the only thing I got from olaplex was horrendous back acne. I persevered with the system for a few months and occasionally it would dry/style better in places but it wasn’t worth it for the money nor for the state it left my back in. The trial kit may definitely be worth a go though.

DaVinyl · 06/03/2021 09:55

I saw a hairdresser on TV saying that putting loads of oil-based treatments on over-bleached hair didn't help. She recommended amino acid based conditioners instead like Joico Luster Lock.
I tried it and leave it on overnight. It has made a difference, similar to using olaplex 3.

wishes1111 · 06/03/2021 09:59

I love olaplex.

I use the shampoo and conditioner once a week and the bonding oil, two drops every day on the ends.

Kittykat93 · 06/03/2021 11:30

Thanks so much for all the advice and recommendations! Seems different things work for different people, I'll have a look into my options

I used the Superdrug dupe and was amazed. My hair is always a bit screwed because I have been colouring it for decades but I don't go for the swishy healthy look (my hair has never been nice enough). I have an undercut and a sort of faux Mohawk arrangement. I was considering Olaplex and came across the superdrug one while researching.

MuddleMoo · 06/03/2021 12:43

I didn't like the all soft, it just didn't make my hair as soft as I'd hoped but I second tigi bed head. Everyone's hair is different though.
kmini · 06/03/2021 12:49

@thefirstmrsdv - what's the superdrug dupe please?

Pippa234 · 06/03/2021 12:53

Olaplex is great! I use the shampoo and conditioner and the treatment.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 06/03/2021 12:54

Superdrug do a dupe that people rave about. R Plex I think it's called.

Superdrug (Savers and other places) also sell Pureplex which is another dupe. I use that one and love it. I've not used olaplex to be able to say whether it's as good, though reviews seem to suggest it is close. One box will give you several treatments, my very abundant just below shoulder length hair got 6 goes out of it, though I had to buy some more of their conditioner. A good tip is to put the liquid bonder into a spray bottle and spray it in, it's like water and hard to apply with the dye bottle like applicator.

Pippa234 · 06/03/2021 12:54

I also use tigi bed head on recommendation of my hair dresser, again that's good.

Kittykat93 · 06/03/2021 12:54

Never heard of superdrug dupe but would be nice to not have to pay olaplex prices Grin

How often do you do a deep conditioning treatment? Try doing one once a week. I find best results if I alternate a hydrating deep conditioner (Garnier hair food banana) one week with a protein deep conditioner Hask Protein treatment the next week.

Apply to the hair, make sure your hair is coated, then put on a shower cap and wrap your head in a towel / turban/ long sleeved t shirt. For a hydrating mask leave it on for as long as possible before washing out. Only leave the protein mask on for 30 minutes as any more can make your hair brittle. And obviously be gentle with your hair: don't drag a brush through it when it's wet, or scrub it with a towel, or blast it with the top heat setting on your hairdryer.

Switch to a shampoo and conditioner with no silicone too, as they coat the hair and prevent moisture getting in.

I'm definitely going to check out the Superdrug Olaplex dupe though, I didn't know there was such a thing!
