Good quality but reasonably priced clothes, early 30's.

I really struggle to know where to buy clothes. In my 20's I would have shopped mainly in newlook and H and M. I just ordered some t-shirts from H and M and the cotton is thin that they're unintentionally see-through.

I'm pear-shaped and wear petite trousers and dresses which makes things more difficult too. I find the likes of Zara fits a more willowy shape than mine, and again I've had problems with quality and stitching coming undone soon after purchase.

I want somewhere I can shop and know that the clothes are good quality and will fit and look well. I am a SAHM so I mainly just need casual wear.

I like the Boohoo clothes. They have some nice stuff.

FreiasBathtub · 04/03/2021 08:02

Uniqlo. Really good staples, for me. I'm a similar shape to you and I find the clothes fit well, are good quality and last. Really big fan.

Esprit?

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 04/03/2021 12:03

Don't overlook Next. Very good for jeans etc for petites.

ParisJeTAime · 04/03/2021 12:10

I came on to the thread to say Uniqlo! But I've been beaten to it Smile.

I also like some Hush stuff. Don't bother with their floaty dresses as they're all expensive polyester. I have one which I got v cheap in their sale, but would have been miffed if I'd paid full price. But, I love their casual tshirts. They're lovely imo.

Oh, where else? John Lewis? They have a lot of brands and good sales. I like their Kin range, which is a bit like Cos.

Cos is another one I like, but only in the sales really as it can be a bit pricey.

I used to like &other stories, but have gone of it. Their stuff doesn't feel good quality to me, although other people rave about it.

The other thing is to check eBay for bargains as well. I've had some nice things from eBay, but it can obviously be hit and miss.

Off*

Also, forgot to say, at John Lewis, I like the Alice Temperley Somerset range as well.

Quality is completely subjective, as is reasonably priced! I would only buy things from the high street after much consideration now, due to ethical issues (I have loads of clothes so rarely need things).

I'd look for natural fabrics and avoid anywhere really cheap (I can't believe someone mentioned Boohoo as a suggestion of good quality, even if you don't care about ethical considerations).

  • H&M Premium Quality line
  • Uniqlo (cotton t-shirts and wool knitwear)
  • Cos/Arket
  • Massimo Dutti/Uterque
  • Small brands (Finery, Omnes, Palones, Kitri)
  • The outnet for discount designer brands if budget allows
  • Wolf & Badger for independent brands

That's about it really.
FYI, Warehouse/Oasis/Dorothy Perkins/Coast/Karen Millen are all now owned by Boohoo.

If you're concerned about ethics too, (as we all should be really), probably the best thing to do is buy secondhand. eBay is good, but charity shops, (when they reopen), are better imo.

I just bought some fab plain t shirts from TU Sainsbury’s. Nice shape, quality and not see through at all. Some stuff is pretty frumpy but there’s some nice bits too. Worth a look.

MargosKaftan · 04/03/2021 16:42

Petite and good quality is annoyingly a hard combination. You will have to be choosy from lots of different shops.

Boden petite is good, but look for their plain things.
Next can be hit and miss, but do have a good petite range
H&M premium
John Lewis
Uniqlo
Hobbs - more workwear, but I've had some good petite coats from them
Hush and mint velvet are good for t shirts, but most clothes are designed for woman with legs.
New Look do have a good petite range.

Have you tried following petite Instagrammers to get their recommendations?

Namechangegame123 · 04/03/2021 17:23

Thanks everyone. I do get a lot of stuff second hand from vinted and ebay and really don't buy more clothes than I need just to keep abreast of trends etc.

I will check out those suggestions.
