OGX shampoos and conditioners

Which one to choose? Dd wants her own shampoo. Her hair is quite fine and gets greasy at the roots but is otherwise quite normal. It's very long and slightly wavy. I like the coconut one for my hair but she wants her own that no one else uses and quite frankly she needs encouragement to wash her hair so I'm all for her having her own if it helps her keep it clean. Tweens 😩

I have fine hair and like the purple collagen one

Everythingmagnolia · 03/03/2021 21:11

I tried the coconut one and the charcoal for greasy hair and neither made any difference to my hair. I also find the bottle shapes awkward too.

Polkadotties · 03/03/2021 21:12

Her hair sounds similar to mine. The white coconut one and the blue Argan one weigh my hair down, alright after one wash but I can’t use them continually.
The coconut one in the clear bottle suits my hair, it’s moisturising enough without weigh my hair down

They recently went sulphate free and have added sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate instead. Doesn’t clean my hair properly and leaves it greasy scalp and straw like tangled ends. Read the reviews - many have the same experience.

They also really weigh my hair down and make it feel yuk too and like Everythingmagnolia says, the bottles are an utter pain in the arse, and up wasting a fair bit of conditioner. The tea tree one makes your head all cold/tingly.

Oh no, I hope I don't! Have just bought some as I liked the fact that they've gone sulphate free and they were on offer in Tesco. I've been using WOW shampoo and conditioner which is also sulphate free and came in a gift set from M&S last summer, but I can't justify the price of buying it normally. I was hoping that OGX might be a cheaper alternative.
Redwinestillfine · 03/03/2021 21:22

They're great. Not many shampoos are paraban and SLS free. Coconut miracle oil is yum.

Blessex · 04/03/2021 07:07

The thing is that there is actually nothing wrong with sulphates in shampoos. And what one ingredient (Sodium Laureth Sulphate) is replaced by - is a cocktail of other chemicals. Read the ingredients. It’s all a big marketing scam. The replaced chemicals struggle to clean the hair as efficiently and hence why many people who use sulphate free shampoos end up with greasy tangled hair - or do so after a while of using them.

I really love the Aussie ones. I think the one I used is just called Mega or something. It doesn't weigh hair down, and feels really clean. It smells nice too.

I've just switched to try a loreal one for long hair. It seems nice.

My hairdresser told me to occasionally use fairy liquid on really greasy hair before shampooing. It breaks down the grease and strips the hair.

FlatteredFool · 04/03/2021 09:50

The Aussie one was awful of my hair. It left my roots greasy and looking like I'd slapped a load of styling creme on there. The hairdresser said I'd need to strip it with fairy liquid which did the trick. Put me off Aussie forever.

My teen DS uses the tea tree and mint clarifying one (green bottle) and it's brilliant on his greasy roots.
