Am I too late?

Hi I was wondering if you help me with some skincare advice? Smile

I was talking to my mate about moisturizer and I mentioned that I'd never used it (I'm 48). Well she damn near blew a gasket! She said "omg! You need to moisturize every day!" I said isn't it too late to start all that? And she's said it's never too late! Grin

Apparently I should be cleansing, toning and moisturising daily! I'm mixed race and have oily eyelids and nose, she recommended a primer before make up for my shiny eyelids and it works!

So I need recommendations for a Cleanser, toner and moisturizer please. I asked my friend but she uses an expensive brand which I'm reluctant to buy for a first timer! Or do I just bite the bullet and buy it as a more expensive one is better than cheap one, as in, you get what you pay for?

Thanks for reading!

If you have skin on the oiler side you probably haven't experienced dry flaky skin? It's dryness and sun exposure that causes wrinkles. It would definitely benefit your skin to look after it even from now. More expensive brands tend to smell nicer, look nicer, some have better ingredients than the cheaper ones but you need to compare as not always the case.
Clinique or No7 boots is good place to start, it's not as expensive as some but not the cheapest and not overly scented like cheap L'Oréal stuff which is awful IMO.

Superdrug and Aldi skincare ranges are both highly rated (on here and elsewhere) so you definitely don't need to spend a lot if you're trying things out to see what suits your skin.

Expensive definitely doesn't always = better and what works well for one person might end up being something you absolutely hate. So have a look at reviews/ do a bit of research but at some point you just have to pick something and give it a go.

No-one HAS to cleanse/tone/moisturise, etc but I have to say my skin feels and looks a million times better since I've been slapping a few different things on it. Some of my favourite products cost a couple of pounds from the supermarket. Some cost much more. Some I buy over and over again and will never stop using. Others I am happy to replace with something else if I fancy a change.

I can't help with any oily skin recommendations but you'll find loads by reading through old threads on here. See what takes your fancy and give a few things a try?

One thing I thought might be worth a mention is that if you start with 3x new products all at once, you might find it difficult to tell which one is doing what. So I would probably start cleanser week 1 + add toner week 2 + add moisturiser week 3 ... just so you can feel/see when you introduce each new thing. (Esp important if you have a bad reaction –you'll know what to stop using straight away.)

Thank you both. I have bought a lacure serem from aldi today so I think I'll start with that. I use No.7 eye make up. I don't use foundation. But I like their products, so they'll be on the list next. Thanks again.
