Cutting a crease?

Is that just 21st century speak for doing one half of your eye in one colour, and the other half another?

And why do we want to cut creases anyway?! The instructor sound very complicated to me.

It's a horid thing where you do your eyeshadow then cover half of it with ultra thick concealer then go over it again in a sparkly pale eyeshadow, that's my take on it! 😂 I find it completely ugly and harsh looking. I must be an old got though. You can't beat a nice blended eye, medium on the lids, dark in the crease, pale on brow bone and inner eye.

Git.

It just seems so unnecessarily difficult @BusterGonad!

I watched a YouTube vid this morning abc decided to try it. Quite some time later, many many brushes later, a lot of eyeshadow all over the bathroom later and:

  1. It looked awful
  2. I was late for work

I thought it was that if you have hooded eyelids, you need to start your darker colour higher up, so that it's visible and tricks the eye into thinking you have more of an eyelid/bigger eyes. If you just go into the natural crease itself it will only be visible when the eye is closed, not open.

For me it’s something people only do for Instagram pics, I can’t see anyone wearing it in real life even for a night out. But then again I’m 36 so might be that I’m too old to ‘get’ the look. It looks really harsh and too much for me. Give me a nice pinky and glowy Charlotte Tilbury look and I’m happy

Agreed Candlewick, I'm 42 and very much into makeup, I've got way too much but I can't get on board with the trends of today. It very much reminds me of stage make up, and dare I say drag make up!

I typed drag make up and then deleted for fear of a backlash Blush but I agree. It’s more like stage make up and done with some artistic license rather than an actual wearable look.

I think that done well with the right colours, it can really elongate and open up your eyes, even if you don't have hooded eyes. I'm 48 and don't think it's difficult at all once you've practiced,

Mollyiere · 03/03/2021 22:18

@MapleMay11 are there any good YouTube tutorials you would recommend?

Candlewick yes, I'm not surprised you thought you'd get backlash. It's a crazy world out there.
Give me soft blended make up any day. You won't catch me with a cut crease, contoured face or black triangle eyebrows.

MapleMay11 · 06/03/2021 09:17

@Mollyiere I can't find the exact one that I learnt to do a subtle crease from but these are quite similar:

AnExcellentWalker · 06/03/2021 09:24

Just had to google this. It looks really OTT & (to my late 30s minimalist self) a bit strange. Like it's been painted on with a wet paintbrush, rather than powder. But I suppose each to their own.

ElderMillennial · 06/03/2021 09:34

I agree with PPs. I'm 37.

I also don't get the baking trend.

Thanks for the link @MapleMay11 :)
