Recommend nice facial wipes?

I use facial wipes to remove makeup and cleanse, before moisturiser etc.

I've tried cheaper supermarket own brand ones, and also tried the more expensive ones.
My skin is quite dry though, even after moisturising.

Can anyone recommend really good luxurious cleansing wipes for dry skin? Willing to pay more.

Or is it time to ditch the wipes and use a cream cleanser?

Forget to say, I'm 38. Been using facial wipes since I was 18.

I used to use wipes for that but then switched to micellar water and cotton pads. Try it, it's much better for your skin and the environment too.

Proper cleanser and flannels. You'll never look back. Better for the environment and wipes pretty much just move make up around rather than cleanse.

Lou573 · 01/03/2021 22:27

Yes, ditch the wipes OP, terrible for the environment. I’m currently using Glossier milky jelly cleanser which is nice.

Cream cleanser or balm rinsed off with a muslin cloth is much better for your skin: Cerave hydrating cleanser is great and not expensive.

My skin has never been better since I ditched them! I use micellar water or cream cleanser and cotton pads and then wash with a gel based cleanser and soft cloth.

Wipes often contain some form of alcohol (to kill the bacteria that grows when the packet is open) and alcohol is extremely bad for skin! Very drying, as you've found.
They also smoosh makeup further into your pores than take it off properly.

I'd go for a proper creamy cleanser. I don't like Micellar much either.

FrankieDoyle · 01/03/2021 22:53

Ooh thank you everyone!

Is Micellar water drying though?

I use washable bamboo pads a lot for a first cleanse sometimes with micelles otherwise with a cleanser.

I recoil in horror when I look back to using wipes on my face as a teen! Urgh!

I use face silk washable pads to take my makeup off (you just wet them with warm water) - they're AMAZING. I then do a hot cloth cleanse.

Olay do some sort of disposable cloth you wet with water and then it activates the foam. I prefer to use a muslin and cleanser as it seems wasteful but they are good for holidays.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 02/03/2021 10:47

How about something like this cream to foam cleanser that you wash your face with instead of wipes? I'm not normally one for liking particular brands but I'm impressed by CeraVe so far, and personally I love the feeling of washing make-up off with "soap" and water.

The wipes are why your skin is dry. Flannel and a cream/balmy cleanser, reusable cotton rounds with micellar before to remove makeup. Every wipe ever used over the last 20 years still exists in landfill somewhere, it's time to change. Loads of nice cleansers, inkey oat balm, cerave, curel, body shop camomile range, super drug vit E, Liz Eagle, many to choose from

Ditch the wipes they are super drying! CeraVe Hydrating cleanser is good value for the amount you get and really gentle as well as hydrating. Use a flannel or microfiber cloth or muslin, or just your hands in the shower/over the sink. Superfacialist rose cream cleanser or the bit C brightening oil are also lovely first cleansers for dry skin and good value. You wont look back once you have ditched the wipes! Micellar is ok now and then but can also be drying and needs to be rinsed off properly.

To quote Sali Hughes, wipes are only good for the three Fs - flights, festivals and fannies :D

I agree nothing will beat using a cleanser and a warm flannel/cloth to get your skin really clean. As someone else has said, wipes are terrible for the environment too.

I have dry skin and my favourites are the Kate Somerville goat milk cleanser (£££), Cerave hydrating cleanser or the Simple facial oil that you massage on to a dry face then rinse off.
